Looking for someone to show me the ropes.

A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

Unique idea that my kids seem to avoid all too much.

Talk to your Dad before he leaves.

Ask questions, listen and learn.

Free advice from someone who knows that press and is interested in your good health would be a great way to go.

I forgot to mention that I have nearly all of Lee's presses for you to take a look at. I have the small "C" press, Breach Lock Press, Classic Turret and the Loadmaster Progressive. I can change to any press in less than 2 minutes because I use Lee's mounting system.

I spoke with OldmanFCSA tonight and whenever you are ready give me a call and I'll help you with the basics. If you bring some of your own supplies, you can actually load some ammo so that we will both know you are able to do it proficiently and MOST of all SAFELY. If you don't have supplies, I have plenty of the most popular calibers and you will only have to cover their replacement costs. I am located in Edina (very easy directions) and free most days and times. As I stated earlier, I will get you going with basics and safe practices. If and when you are ready for advanced reloading, OldmanFCSA is the BEST way to go. I have taken classes from him, and learn every time I go over. Besides him being a GREAT and Knowledgeable person, his dog Murphy welcomes you readily. Just don't wear shorts and bend over! Murphy's damn nose is COLD! :bolt:

I think "The ABCs of Reloading" and Lyman #48 are preferable to "Lee's Modern Reloading", but if you can filter the wheat (valid reloading advice, steps, etc) from the chaff (shameless plugs by Richard Lee touting the superiority of his equipment as compared to unnamed competitors), yes it's a good book.

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say; the book made me feel smart for buying a Lee press :) There's lots of discussion of the technical & theoretical side of stuff helped me understand what was going on.

Siesmic's criticisms about the charts are valid, though; they're making some assumptions about bullet shape etc. that they don't tell you. And they don't make it obvious what barrel the velocities come from, though I THINK they're all from test barrels as opposed to regular guns. I probably says somewhere... it's been a few years since I read the book cover to cover... if I did.

What model Lee press is it? If it's a single stage or turret (like I have), you'll figure it out with minimal or no coaching, though it certainly can't hurt. If it's one of their progressives, well, I hear they're finicky; I'd definitely find a loading sensei for one of those if possible.

For any of them, there's a mess of videos on YouTube.

It's like barbecuing, in that the main trick is to pay attention.
