What's an Enfield 303 worth?

Postby Need4Speed on Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:28 am

Might take this as a partial trade for a snowmobile I am selling. Dude doing the trading seems to think it's worth $400, give or take. Picture shows it to be in decent shape, but without having it looked at a picture doesn't say much.

Any cheap ammo around for these? I'm seeing a buck a round or more.

Its a Number 1 Mark 3 which has been "Bubbacized" which drops the value down to a maximum of $200 if one really wants a "sporterized" Enfield. It might be worth a solid $200 or slightly more if it is a Lithgow as there is a small cult following for the Aussie guns, especially a WWI gun.

As for $400, I recently bought two WWI era SMLEs for under $350 each in full original military regalia including the magazine cut offs. I think it may have been a little on the high side but I did not have either manufacturer nor of that type so it was worth it to me to fill my collection. I think the gun owner is a little over optimistic in his pricing but if he is using Gander Mountain as his price source, then he may think he is a little low.

I am not an Enfield expert, but I've had a few pass through my hands. Looks like a No 1 Enfield rifle that has been sporterized, stock is cut down, non military sling swivel on the front, all the front hardware missing.
If the bore is good, I suppose it could be a candidate for restoration, but as it is, maaaaaaaybe $150???? Maybe. You'd need some pics around the front sight to see what has been done to it there.
Certainly not anywhere near $400, which should buy you a very nice, correct Enfield.
You are correct about the ammo, there hasn't been cheap .303 around for a while.

Not $400, not in the condition its in. Sporter Enfields are sitting on the racks at most Pawn Shops for less than $200. As trade fodder, I'd value it at $150 if its something you want.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

It's been a couple years but I paid 130 for my sporterized lee enfield. It also didn't come with a sling either though. I was just at Frontiersman on Saturday I thought I saw some 303 there if you do end up getting it. Don't recall the price though.

Photogpat's estimation is right on, no more that $150.
