Postby jtk5768 on Fri Jul 26, 2013 3:04 pm

Need recommendations for aftermarket barrel for my Glock... to avoid the Glock Bulge as I will be reloading my .40 ammo. Just curious on peoples personal experiences and preferences.

Get a G-RX die, problem solved. In my opinion all 40 brass should be run through one. Unless you are only picking up your brass and your 100% sure it's yours. That's not been fired from a GLOCK barrel. If you buy once fired brass, run it through the die.

Is this an additional step you run .40 through or do you out this in your resize station on a progressive?

Additional step. The brass comes out the top of the die. You can buy a jug that goes on top of the die to collect the brass.

I have plenty of brass to reload and debulging die. Looking for recommendations on a barrel to extend the life of my brass and potentially improve accuracy. Thanks for your input.

I put EFK barrels in all my Glocks and never had an issue with them. Fully supported, can shoot lead, drop right in.

what exactly is the issue with .40 's in a glock, I have never heard of this. I shoot a Glock .40 and have a boatload of brass I was planning on reloading, some mine, but most are range pick-ups.
What if the Hokey Pokey really isn't what it's all about???

The bottom of the chamber does on .40 Glocks does not come all the way back to the rim like it does in almost all other firearms. This results in a bulge in the bottom of the case when the round is fired, especially at higher pressures. It is also known as the "Glock Smile." My understanding is that the newer models don't have nearly the problem that the E series and earlier runs had.

I've used both the KKM barrels and the Lone Wolf in several different Glocks to allow me to shoot lead and avoid the Glock "bulge" in the 40 S&W. I've had better luck with the KKM, NO complaints. The Lone Wolf can vary. I had a LW for a G36, throat wasn't cut right, had to send it back and wait; worked after that. Got a LW in an old G22 upper, seems to collect junk and needs to be cleaned much more frequently than my KKM ( 45 ACP ). But it does work; just keep in mind I always shoot cast which will foul a barrel a lot quicker than jacketed.

If there is no more than $ 10-20 difference between the two ( and you shoot lead ), I would encourage you to go with the KKM. If you shoot jacketed, you may not be able to tell the difference. YMMV.

Here's a photo of a Gen 3 stock Glock 20 bbl:

And my EFK bbl: (fully supported, maybe not!)

Not perfect, so I run all the brass thru the GRX die:

Rodentman what are the letters in your G20 serial number? I know the barrel got changed in there somewhere after the E series but I don't remember exactly when, the old ones were less supported than that.

Thousands of reloads through a factory Gen 4 Glock 23 here.....no issues with bulged brass. I have yet to find an after market barrel that supports the case anymore than the newer Glock ones....maybe someone can show a picture to prove me wrong? I'd like another reason to get one aside from being able to shoot lead!

Would this one work for $50 less? Never tried either.

I don't know if that would work the same or not. Looks like you need a lee factory crimp die to use it. I use the GrX because when I wanted a de-bulging die. That's the one John from gun stop recommended. I've been real happy with it.
