Strad's suggestion and anybody else willing to donate main motivation is to help families in need, but it doesn't hurt to get some good public relations for gun owners at the same time. hammAR based on your involvement do you have any suggestions on the best way to get a little pr from it?

To be honest, yes................but it would involve some of us not attending..... :rotf:

I'm willing to discuss and help with the how and when...........we need to determine the what and who............

Geez Gunny, don't be so hard on yourself!!!

First we need to decide whether to do the "adopt a family" or to do a TfT drive. I personally vote for the latter. I have been involved with the adopt a family before, and my family ended up buying a couple hundred dollars worth of gifts for a family that was better off than we were. Kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

I would be happy to collect and store donations of toys, and could take pay-pal donations, although I would think it would be more fun and rewarding to actually go out and buy an inexpensive gift. My paypal account is attatched to a debit card, so we could even have a group shopping spree (could you imagine a group of 20 people OC at toys r us  )

Here is a link to the toys for tots website. http://www.toysfortots.org/

I would be most comfortable running this through the USMC's ToysForTots program, rather than through Catholic Charities or some other organization.

Dawn and I were discussing this tonight sitting out on the deck with a fire going just the two of us. Dawn having a beer and me Macallan 25 yr old Anniversary Malt, very romantic and what do we talk about.......... this damn forum.......

Actually she is pretty interested in this giving for the holidays and one idea we had was...... would anybody be interested in having a holiday party say in Dec where we can bring the gifts to hand them off and celebrate? Just throwing it out there, we know its a very busy time of the year.

I like the idea of the holiday get together, maybe we should take a poll as to when the best day would be. As for the donations, As I stated before, I think it would be better to collect new, unwrapped gifts for teh drive, but would be willing to take donations. This might be a great way to do a lot of things. For those of us with kids, maybe we could take them along on a shopping trip, and let them pick out a toy to donate. Would be a good way to get the kids involved as well!

I would be happy to collect donations with my PayPal account which will be put on hold for all other purposes until this event is over. Donations can be made to stradcustomgrips.com, and I will keep a running tally of actual amount in the account (donations - paypal fees). If anyone has any ideas to make this more efficient, or just plain better, I'm all ears :D

I'd look for volunteers from different parts of the cities to take donations.

ALLRIGHT!!!! Through the recent Alarys outing posts, hammAR has inspired me to rekindle the fire under my keester to get this project moving. As you can see, my signature will update with dontaions (PayPal for now, but will also update with total toy count and cash donations as well!) $5.12 isn't much but it is certainly a push in the right direction.

If you are interested in volunteering to take donations in your area, I will update totals to reflect what you are able to collect, PM me with detals. If you are interested in donating toys, please PM me so I can get a collection started. Doesn't have to be much.... a few bucks here, a new unwrapped toy there, etc. etc. Lets try to get things progressing so we can get together and spread some cheer!

(and yes, I'm going to keep badgering y'all 'till i get some results!!!!!! ;) )

My bar/music venue in Northeast Minneapolis might be a good place for this, as it is much bigger than your average living room and is sort of set up for entertaining. Happy to offer its use if people are up for a party/gathering.

Thank you David for your generosity, your place sounds like an ideal venue for the party. Dawn mentioned she would cook some food and maybe (Strad's idea) potluck. If it is in December a meat dish or two could be venison, my son has been very successful goose hunting, so one option is a wild game feed. All just idea's at this point, please add your idea's, after all this is Strad's event. ;)

Thanks for the Kudos, but as far as I'm concerned, this is our event! (although $5.12 and no toys is a pretty rocky start hint hint) All suggestions and ideas are welcome, as long as we keep focused on the kids!!

Can't figue out how to create a link  in the mean time, the paypal address is in my signature line. All other transactions have been put on hold for this account, so it will only be used for Toys for Tots donations until after all toys are dropped off.

If anyone can help me figure out how to get a "donate" link in my sugnature line, I'd appreciate it....... Princewally I'm looking in your general direction!!
