If you are going to go with Red Dot, go cheaper and use Alliant Promo. One can only get it in 8 pound kegs but one uses the same weight of charge as one would use with Red Dot. You will need a scale to check weights as one uses a different bushing for Promo than for Red Dot. I am also surprised that American Select costs more than Red Dot, the last kegs I bought were actually less than the "Dots" by at least $10 and I think it was closer to $20. The last time I bought AS was at Ahlman's during their reloading sale and it was definitely less than the others.
As for where to find it, Wolf's Den and Metro were the last places I bought it but that was a while back. Fleet Farm will only have 1 pound canisters for the next year from what I have been told as that was what their old purchaser decided. It sounds they will give it a year to see how things shake out before trying other sizes of powder containers.
I've used several kegs of Promo since it came out. I like the stuff, especially as it is the cheapest powder I can find on a regular basis. With the way prices have risen over the last few years, Promo has allowed me to shoot more than I would otherwise.
