What are you reloading today.

A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

How is the accuracy on that Clays load, dronning? I have the load down for accuracy for my K38 Target Masterpiece. [2.7gr Bullseye with Speer 148gr HBWC], but haven't tested with my LSWCs yet.
I have Clays powder and am wondering if it is worth a try.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the cases Jim. At least they didn't give me any problems, like some of the others did. I too, dislike loading .380's They are tiny with very small powder charges. Luckily, my Lee Pro Auto Disk throws 3gr of Bullseye quite accurately. I wasn't certain I was going to like the Loadmaster Progressive press, but now that I have it setup correctly and replaced the worn parts (bought it used for a VERY good price), I truly like it. It really comes in handy when I have large quantities of pistol ammo to load.

I have a setup for .223 but haven't loaded them as of yet. I don't believe I will use the Loadmaster for any rifle calibers above .223. I'll stick with my Classic Turret for all rifle calibers above .223, except the 50 BMG. I will eventually get over to see Mr. OldmanFCSA for a thorough training in properly preparing and proper loading og the 50's.

I don't reload them, as I have no .380 guns anymore. What they do is pop out of the shell holder after accepting the primer - so they waste a press stroke, and a primer.

Very accurate with the Red River 158gr LSWC. Both my 586 and K38 (14-4) love this load. There are several other bullseye shooters that I shoot with that use this load (I got it from them).

Thanks dronning.
I have 158gr Red River LSWCs and will load up a couple of boxes.
I will let you know how they shoot in my K38.

Did a hundred .357 tonight. Tried some of the berry's 158's I found at Cabela's this week. It is interesting that they post no load data on their sight. Also noticed montana gold does not appear to have any data either.

When I first started loading Berrys and Rainier, I had to do a lot of research before I felt good about starting. No clear cut data on them.

Berrys recommend's using hard cast load data, and nothing over 1250fps. I am loading well below that with the same moderate charge that worked for prior HC bullets I have loaded. I did a lot of reading online , and found a lot of recipes, but I figured it would be best to run with Berry's recommendation and a moderate charge. I need to work on my accuracy more than I need to push puch he limits of the .357 .

I'm also using Berry's. The problem I have is that I'm trying to come up with a load that works for both handgun and carbine. With the .45s it wasn't a concern, no way was I going to hit 1250fps. But now I'm loading 9mm and a load that pushes 1000 - 1100fps in the handgun will most likely surpass 1250fps in a 16" barrel carbine.

Edit: Did some research on http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com . They don't list cast lead or plated bullits but the 9mm ammo they do list shows about a 17% increase in muzzle velocity from a 4" barrel to a 16" barrel. If I keep my loads at or below 1050fps in a hand gun the carbine should be spitting them out at around 1230fps.
