You may be....
We finally get a decent discussion going on something GUN RELATED on this forum, sort of refreshing....
Erud wrote:I fired a 80-shot 500 yard rifle match just yesterday with my fancy rifle chambered in a 6mm wildcat based off the ol' .243 Winchester case. It shoots the 115 DTAC bullet at 3000 fps and the ballistics will beat any combination possible out of a .308. With 800 points possible, I finished with a 793-36x and placed pretty high, 4th, I think.
The match winner shot an 800-44x using a .308.
So there you have it, case closed!

Its all about the driver, but you must admit that if you aren't shooting in a match environment with a set range and the ability to take sighters prior to shooting for score it helps to have a flatter shooting more efficient round to help remove a little guess work in the field. helps for me anyway![]()
Also i'd be interested in the specs of your 6mm wildcat, and where/ what type of match you were shooting in? I'm not new to long range shooting but the only "match" I've shot in is a small one that takes place in Princeton throughout the winter months, and I'd like to move on to a few other things as well. I recently aquired a 6mm Super LR that weighs in at about 17lbs w/scope. feel free to PM me if you don't want to jack this thread.

Agreed.
Are you agreeing with the being done part, or the finding something that'll work part? If the former, why? As someone mentioned above, it's not like we get a lot of actual "gun talk" on this board....

The arrogant snarkiness is exactly why some competitions i stopped going to.
There's helping someone learn and then there's being an ass about it.
The thread went there.
yukonjasper wrote:great topic. Although just an opinion because I'm no expert, but I've used a 30-06 for whitetail and had good luck. There is a viewpoint/possible misconception that the .243 is too lightweight for clean kills. right or wrong, .243 is considered a beginning hunter caliber - I assume because of the relative lack of recoil. I don't know anyone who hunts with a .308, but I have hunted with the same 8 guys/gals for the last 30+ years. They have used the gammut from 7mm to .243 for white tail hunting at less than 300yards with good effect. 93 year old uncle hunted Colorado for 40 years - elk, mulies etc. swore by 30-06 which is why I got mine 30 years ago.
Wish I could type out a bunch of Ballistic Coefficient number, but that isn't my area. Lots of great knowlege here from people who really shoot a ton, so Good luck on your choice.
An update on how you do with pictures would be great.
ERUD - does that shoot bullets or some sort of plasma pulse...............talk about a race gun.
...........Cool as Hell............
