Anyone planning on going out for bow opener? Weather looks a little warmer then I like but will try to get out for at least one evening hunt. Will be hunting in areas 236 and 178 this year.

I'll be in my back yard, well about a half mile out into my back yard that is :) (Area 225)

I was thinking about it, but it just seems so early. Would love to go out, but I can't get up to the cabin; or any good spots I can find. I really like to see the deer freeze before I get to work on it anyway. I am sure I will get out in the next couple of weeks.

Great hunting weekend, the wind was a challenge but we had options for all occasions and I actually had a fawn walk within 10 feet while I was sitting in some thick brush at ground level before it spooked. The corn was a plus as far as I'm concerned as the gaps between it and larger tree groves made some superb natural choke points through which they would transit within 0-40 yards of a stand in the morning to daytime cover as long as I kept my scent downwind.

Ended up taking a healthy size yearling doe on Sunday morning and at one point had 3 deer within unobstructed bow range from which to pick (took the largest @ 32 yards). I got it out of the field and packed with ice while it hung in the shade exposed to a healthy 10 mph wind to cool down before i strapped it to the roof of our Kia and enjoyed the crazy looks I got on the way north through Mankato to the cities.

FYI - Von Hansens is running their $80 processing special (steaks, chops, roasts plus trimmings come back, add $5 to knock the antlers off a buck, you pay extra for any grinding plus $4-8+ per pound for sticks/sausage/jerky) though you need to call and verify the location will accept wild game as I was told some retail locations are not yet accepting deer and would need you to drop it off at one of their processing centers directly. Chaska took mine at the retail store after I called and set-up an appointment on the way in to town.
