? No trolling... I have serious concerns. I was in the military out of high school and then served as a deputy sheriff since I was 21, I like to keep my record clean. I wouldn't be so worried if I though my Utah permit would be here before my trip, I wouldn't even have asked.

Edit:
I did quit the Sheriffs Dept two years ago so now I can't carry under HR 218.

Well the castle and being a space shuttle door gunner was slightly bs, but when the property is built up it will be awesome. And that old adage a mans home is his castle blah,blah,blah...

I agree with everyone else that you will be fine. On a relative's private property in a rural area I can't imagine why there would be a problem. I was merely pointing out what the law actually says, according to the DPS website.

Yeah, I wasn't saying you're wrong, but the way laws are worded are typically convoluted, and that Code didn't exactly answer my question because of the circumstances involved, I'd rather be safe then sorry.

Yeah, they'll be about as influential on this board as they will be in outstate Minnesota. Many of those folks have just been sitting around, waiting for the mayor of newjokecity to show up and explain how they all been living wrong these many years. :angryvillagers:

To be trolling don't you have to be trying to elicit negative emotions, or at least be a douche, similar to what you're doing?

PS - If you're going to get a PTC, get one from your home state first...

That is true if you have less than 10 years of service, then you cannot qualify under HR 218.

the hr 218 thing doesn't mean he can't get a ptc it means he doesn't qualify automatically because he's not police anymore?

He can qualify under HR 218 if he has 10 years of service, he does not have to be an active LEO to do so.

I have a lifetime LTCH (License to carry a hand gun{what my state calls it). And have had a permit since about 2 months after I turned 18. They didn't start doing the lifetime ones until a few years back. The problem is MN doesn't accept my states carry permit.

MN does not have a requirements for you to have one from.your homestate first.

You can get one without having one at all if you wanted as a non-resident.

That is correct. HR 218 covers all active LEO's and any retired LEO's. Most deparrnts consider an officer/deputy vested (able to retire with benifits) after 10 years although officers seldom ever do because retirement after 10 years is only about 20% of retirement after 30 years.

I got out of law enforcement after our last election, I was tired of the politics. Figured I'd try my hand in the private sector for once. I didn't realize the private sector was just as bad without all the time off. Ive been reconsidering joining a law enforcement agency.
