Who's up for a challenge?

Postby AFTERMATH on Sun Sep 15, 2013 3:23 pm

The Rifleman's Challenge, that is.
http://www.riflemanschallenge.com/

I haven't done this one yet, but I should think it's considerably easier than the traditional Rifleman's Challenge of putting 10rds in a 1" square at 25m in 60 seconds - With only hit's counting. I'll see if I can squeeze this in before the sun goes down tonight.

Anyway - Take the challenge, post your results and let the whole country know how awesome Minnesota(and part of Wisconsin) are!

Shot a clean score at 25 so I backed up to 50yds for the second one and pulled off a 90.

Bone stock 10/22 carbine W/Vortex crossfire 4-12 and cci standard 40gr.

At 25 yards I could not get any of my 10 rounds on the paper target. Is there a class below Plinker ?

With a thread title that includes the term "challenge", I thought is was safe to assume we'd be shooting bolt-action 22s w/iron sights...

I haven't been able to complete the challenge yet w/that set up, but it is do-able... 8-)

10 rounds with only hits counting?
Why does the scorecard include the numbers 42, 52 ,68, 84, and 86? did I miss something?

10-ring prints out @ 1.0" diameter

I don't get the scoring either; you get 0-10 hits according to the narration... this ain't horseshoes....

That's the traditional one - this contemporary version has a 1" bull(10pts) and subsequent rings 8, 6, 4 pts.
But a true rifleman knows only the black counts. ;)

That's the 'try again' class.

The center is 1" dia
the 8, 6, and 4 rings increase at approx 7/8" dia each...

Being that it is the Rifleman's Challenge I can't say there's a handicap, but if I was only able to use a pistol I should think I'd learn to use it like a rifle.

Show-off! Time to try it with either irons or centerfire now!

No real extra challenge there either - the only difference is time management.
If you really want to increase the challenge - Use a centerfire w/iron sights.

The first real "challenge" will be finding some ammo to shoot ;)

I'll try this some time if I get a chance. I practice a lot with .22LR and air rifle on the reduced NRA Highpower targets. I shot these 4 consecutive targets last fall with my .22 copy of my match AR:

Image

The 10-ring is a little bigger on this target(1.45"), but to be fair, these were shot at 50 yards from sitting position with sling and iron sights, including a magazine change in the middle of each 60 second 10-round string.

Anybody beat that?

8-)

how exactly do you suggest using a pistol like a rifle? the the lack of a stock to hold against your shoulder is what makes it different. how agaist the rules is using two hands when firing a pistol (if its not a revolver and you don't cover the muzzle or put your hand behind the slide)? It does say designed to be, does that mean using two hands is a nono?

I don't own a 22 repeater or one with a scope, and firing a rifle at 25 yards just feels unclean.

This is the best I've done with a 22. A 98-3x with my iron sighted CMP Kimber M82g at 200 yards on the NRA SR target.

In fairness, it took me a bit longer than 60 sec. ;)

I was able to get out for a quick ten rounds this morning. After a few shots to make sure my scope was still zeroed, I shot ten on the downloaded target. I was using an old Marlin Bolt action though, and I'm sure I went over a minute... so sue me.

I forget how hard it is to hold that rifle steady without sandbags or a pack, and I didn't have a sling on this rifle. I'll try again later if I have some time.

A score of 84 for me, I'm not too steady anymore... damn, just missed expert! :(
