Mossberg 500 persuader 8 shot 12ga.

Postby PHATSPEED7x on Mon Sep 23, 2013 1:04 pm

Picking one of these up next weekend in a gun deal. In all the years of owning guns this will be my first Mossberg 500. I see they have just as much accessories as the Remington 870. I've owned a Mossberg 835 field years ago, and it was a good shotgun. Planning on keeping this one as a SHTF/HD gun. Anyone else own a Mossberg 500 persuader? How do you like it?

While not a Persuader, I do own a 500 and prefer it over the 870 I had previously.

Just sold one that had replaced an 870. Didn't sell because I didn't like it, just didn't really need it. Was nice gun with collapsible stock.

Guy just sent me pictures of the gun. It's new in box. Never been fired. And it's the ZMB edition. I like zombie themed stuff so that's an added bonus. Also said he'll throw in a few boxes of 12ga...

I own that exact same gun. Used it a shotgun course that I took, blow holes in things with it now and again and now it sits cruiser ready behind my office door with #4 buck in the tube and slugs in it's sidesaddle.

Cool shotty. For HD shotguns, do you guys use the stock bead or put ghost rings on?

For HD it's going to be point and shoot ,so a bead should be just fine. I have it's cheeper brother the Maveric 88 6 shot. 3 inch oo buck or slug is REAl fun.

Best shotgun for leftys like me, with the safety on top instead of a crossbolt. Been looking at them around town for a long time, I imagine I'll eventually get one.

Now that you mention that, I have been told that is a weak point. The weak point is that it is a plastic slide safety and that they can break, so the recomndation is to replace it with a metal one that I guess can be obtained from Brownells. I have a couple Mossbergs and have friends that use them, the plastic slide safety has never broken for us, so don't know if a valid concern.

My brother-in-law in has a 590 on which the safety had broken. Easy fix.

This might be an upgrade to look into when I get the shotgun.

I have the non zombie version.

Now I need to see if I care about the plastic safety dammit.

It's not a bad upgrade. Makes for flicking the safety real easy. Think I'll do it to mine.

I picked up a 590a1 this year. Put a couple hundred rds thru it and really like the gun had zero problems with it.. Also have the ghost ring on it.. Only thing I want to do is add a pistol grip to it..
