Have like minded neighbors,

Major asset, should things go TU. Also, I don't think sharing ideas and knowledge on a relatively local board does any harm to OpSec. Far more likely that such networking helps everyone who cares to engage. If colapse occurs, the last thing I'm worried about is Seismic Sam, RTK, photogpat and Rodentman 4-prongin' an attack on the compound. I'm guessing they'll come up the driveway with a hoe in one hand and a boomstick in the other.

If you guys think of it, grab a ton of smokes and tp on your way. They're gonna be the new gold.

Does this type of stuff make me a "prepper"? IDK. iDC.

I think that advertising it makes you a target if people get scared.

Years worth of dried goods takes very little space. I get a years worth of wheat every fall at harvest for bread baking all year long. 5 five gallon buckets is all it takes. A lot of that goes to friends who found out how good fresh ground flour is. I was having stomach problems that I traced to grocery store bread. I can eat the bread I make from organic wheat just fine though.

Living out in the country like I do, you would be a damn fool if you weren't somewhat prepared. In the year I've lived out here we've been without power for 2 days in the winter and 4 days in the summer. I don't have a big enough generator to run my whole house yet, but do have multiple alternative means of heat that don't require electricity.

I also store as much water as I can. Without the means to run my well pump, it amazing how much water you use flushing toilets and such. Obviously in a true SHTF scenario priorities would change with water usage.

Food is relatively inexpensive to stock up on if you do it over time.

I wouldn't even bother to stock up on supplies if I lived in the metro, unless you have a bugout location to keep it. Best just to bail IMHO.

IMHO, this doesn't matter. As long as its big enough to start things with motors and pumps (well, fridge, etc.) it's enough. A little HF 2,000w unit won't do it, but anything that's a bit too heavy for an average wife to put in the back of a truck will prolly do the trick.

Trick is having 220v to run the well, which I do not have. It's on the want list, but I'm torn. What I would really want is one of the big propane powered Generacs that are hard plumbed and wired for automatic kick in. But yeah.....its a lot of cabbage to drop on something you hope you'll never need. I've almost bought a bigger portable several times, just keep holding out for what I really want. Plus I don't want to have to store a whole bunch of gasoline, hence the wanting a propane genset. 500 gal of propane would last a long time. Certainly long enough to make it through any worst case scenario winter storm.

Can't say I am too impressed with his hamfisted and clumsy gun handling.

My thought when watching this was "That fat ass is going to take my supplies?" Then I started laughing.

That picture tells quite a story. Look at it a bit. I think maybe this show is designed to cast those who would consider the possibility of a less than ideal future as half-witted, white trash, knuckle draggers.

The whole family is over weight. She's shooting w/o vision or hearing protection. Anyone who's seen a movie or played a video game will notice that she's shooting a single. There's a dilapitated shed (complete with raggedy-ass antlers) in the background. The whole thing screams, "Look at the silly hillbillies!"

Is this pretty much the theme of these shows?

TV is simply all about clever marketing to get people to watch. There's not much interest in "quality" programming.

Duck Dynasty (check out their new Christmas album)
Honey Boo Boo
Moonshiners
Swamp People

and so on

Compare sitcoms of the past (All in the Family, Taxi) with those of today.

If you have a limp, just let her walk next to you.

I just finished watching that train wreck of an episode... A huge majority of actual preppers are military, with training and then there's this guy, with his pathetic excuse for a mustache, who I'm sure doesn't have any besides call of duty.

I'd love to see this guy in an actual attack with his armor on. I'm sure he'd make a good speed bump.
