MNGOPAC: Beat the Anti-Gunners on Give to the Max Day!

A message from the Minnesota Gun Owners Political Action Committee

Thursday, November 14th is Give to the Max Day!

Give to the Max Day was created in 2009 to increase giving to nonprofit organizations across the state and move more giving online. It's a day for Minnesotans to come together to raise as much money as possible for nonprofits and schools in 24 hours.

By engaging as many donors as possible in one day, Minnesotans donated $16.3 million dollars in 2012 to benefit Minnesota nonprofit organizations and schools. More than 53,000 individuals donors gave money.

Seems like a perfect day for an anti-gun & anti-civil rights organization to raise money, right?

I bet you immediately said Hell No!

That was my reaction too.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what the Minnesota anti-gun & anti-rights group Protect Minnesota is doing this year for Give to the Max Day.

Even worse, they've lined up a donor to match every donation dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.

By the end of the week, they could have more than $20,000 in new funding for anti-gun efforts.

Do you remember what Protect Minnesota said and did at the legislature this year?

They helped craft bills that banned common hunting rifles, required mandatory police inspections of the homes of law-abiding gun owners, banned magazines holding more than 7 rounds, restricted permits to carry, and even required registration and confiscation of some firearms upon the owner's death.

Going into next year, they have new funding from out of state, a new political consultant, and more anti-rights bills lined up.

But we're going to beat them - again!

How can you help?

We're going to start by beating them at the fundraising game for Give to the Max Day!

We invite you to join us in changing the face of the Minnesota Legislature by supporting Pro-Second Amendment Lawmakers and Candidates.

  • $10 per month helps us partially support one Pro-Second Amendment lawmaker or candidate each election in Minnesota.
  • Commit to $25 per month, forming the backbone of the funding we need to fully support one Pro-Second Amendment lawmaker or candidate each election.
  • A commitment of $50 or more per month will allow us to fully support two or more Pro-Second Amendment lawmakers or candidates during each election.
  • Any one-time donation is greatly appreciated and will help us support Pro-Second Amendment candidates and lawmakers.

We've put together some cool new perks for donors. For those of you who have already donated, don't worry - we'll be grandfathering all of our present donors and will have yours out to you within six to eight weeks.

  • Certificates of Second Amendment Support
  • Minnesota Gun Owners Political Action Committee Patches
  • Challenge Coins to carry in your pocket and demonstrate your commitment to the Second Amendment
  • Wall Plaques for our most committed supporters

The success of Pro-Second Amendment candidates depends on your donations. Your support will ensure that Minnesota's gun owners will have a significant impact on the 2014 elections.

We need your help this year to ensure that pro-rights candidates succeed. Join us today!

Thanks for your ongoing support of our efforts,

No replies, wonder if you raised any money? I'm tapped out for awhile after donating to other groups

We did ;-) And we picked up some pretty positive coverage for striking at them like this.

It's nice to be on the offensive for once.

Thanks for asking!

Awesome!

I get the impression the PAC has a very well defined plan and this will definitely have a positive impact on future elections.

Thanks! We do have a plan - and a very specific role (win elections, endorse candidates, support candidates)... just like GOCRA is very focused on lobbying and related activities.

we'll share more in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the kind words,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,
Are you folks putting much effort into trying to change candidates minds (or at least nudging them our way) in addition to supporting those who are already pro-gun?

I'll be happy to answer that, since political strategy falls into my wheelhouse as chairman.

Our final goal is to ensure that a pro-2A majority is elected, and we will pursue that goal by all means at our disposal. If we can win an ally who is already politically strong and freedom-minded, the need to elevate a separate candidate decreases.

It depends on the candidate, of course. We certainly can't change the mind of a Latz or a Paymar, but others who are on the fence may be worth a dialogue. There will be candidates who decide to give into polls rather than principles, or fall victim to a well-performed sob story, or are simply uneducated on the issue. In those cases, I will reach out to the campaign committee (and the candidate directly, if possible) and ask for a clarification and reason for their position in an attempt to persuade. One of the best things about being able to have those conversations is that the facts are truly on our side.

Pressure from a well-supported and recognized PAC can have a strong effect on candidates, especially when the PAC can bring financial assistance to the candidate at a key point in the campaign.

At the end of the day, however, they will need to be pro-rights to earn our endorsement. We will not back, with words or dollars, a candidate who will not commit to supporting our Second Amendment rights.

No, not that guy. Or that other one either.
