As reported by our favorite sensationalists, Fox9 news.

They say it was an "isolated incident" but that the perp knowing targeted the doctor?

There should be more to the story here...

It's interesting that law enforcement isn't sharing any details - according to the Star Tribune, the family doesn't even know who the guy was or what he was doing there.

Orono shooting: Family of man killed outside doctor's home expresses condolences

The family of the St. Anthony man who was killed after an armed confrontation with Orono police outside the house of the world-renowned physican slain Friday night offered their condolences to the doctor's family Sunday.

Stephen Larson, the founder of OBGYN Specialists in Edina and Burnsville, was found dead by multiple gunshot wounds inside the home on the 1000 block of Heritage Lane, according to the sheriff's office and those that knew him. Larson, 74, was married with four children.

Ted Hoffstrom, who police found armed with a handgun outside the home, was pronounced dead in the front yard before 9 p.m. Friday, said the Hennepin County sheriff's office and his family.

"It is with great sadness that we extend our heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the family of Dr.Stephen Larson, a world-renowned physician, was found dead in his home Friday night after being shot.
Stephen Larson," the Hoffstrom family said in a statement released to the Pioneer Press. "Our hearts are broken for all of those affected by this tragic event. We are shocked and saddened by this news, and many questions remain unanswered."…..

We'll learn more in a reasonable amount of time. It usually takes the police awhile to figure out what did happen - and it doesn't always make sense at first.

I also heard this on the 'long before sun up' channel 5. That, according to someone close to the subject (dr or gunman wasn't made clear). Maybe he botched his circumcision years ago and wanted payback. A curious story for sure.

Certainly doesn't have to even be a "botched" circumcision. There is a vocal contingent of people that feel that even a perfectly executed circumcision is an abomination. Get an obsessive-enough personality and it wouldn't be the first time it was considered to be worthy of murder.

Orono doctor's killer 'hostile' over mother's medical treatment - Star Tribune

The 30-year-old lawyer suspected of killing prominent Orono physician Dr. Stephen Larson had expressed hostility toward Larson because of how the doctor had treated his mother in an undisclosed medical situation, police said Monday.

Ted C. Hoffstrom of St. Anthony, confronted Orono police outside the 74-year-old doctor’s home with a semiautomatic handgun Friday night. “Diligent attempts to negotiate” with Hoffstrom failed and he was shot and killed, authorities said. Larson was then found dead inside the house, shot with the gun Hoffstrom had wielded, ballistics tests would show.

“This is a tragedy of epic proportions for both families involved, as well as the community of Orono,” Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek said Monday afternoon at a news conference in Minneapolis….

"Dear Colleagues,

I am stunned and saddened to write to you about the tragic death of an esteemed graduate of the Mayo Ob/Gyn residency (1964-1968). Dr. Stephen Larson was murdered in his Twin Cities home on Friday, November 15th. Some of you will remember Dr. Larson from his residency days. Some will have met him at Minnesota ACOG and other meetings in the Twin Cities area. If you knew him at all, you knew his lifelong allegiance to his training program and Mayo Clinic. His sister xxxx xxxx is on the administrative staff at Mayo Rochester. I’ve asked her to keep me informed about the time and location of memorial services, and where to send cards or remembrances. I’ll forward this information to all as it becomes available.

Steve was proud of his Mayo training – and I know the converse to be true. He was greatly respected for his surgical skills and his commitment to his patients. His work ethic was legendary – the rare kind of joy in work that the Mayo brothers write about. (The last time that I spoke with him we talked about theories on mandatory age for surgeons to stop operating… It was pretty clear that he’d be an exception to any general principles that one might devise!) I can’t believe that his life ended in violence. This world contains such horror – embedded within such beauty and richness. I guess that our job is to move around and past the one in order to fully embrace and enjoy the other….
