I think it's highly unlikely that a Republican wins this seat.
It's possible that a Pro-2A candidate (DFL) could win - but so far the only declared candidate is a highly progressive liberal attorney who used to staff the Public Safety committee.
That's also one of the most liberal neighborhoods in St. Paul. There might be a slight glimmer of hope - but I wouldn't count on it too much.
Here's the good news:
- Paymar is out.
- A replacement will not be chairing any committees for at least 2-3 sessions (i.e. 4-6 years)
Here's the bad news:
- He has a session to go as a lame-duck chairman.
- He'll be more willing to roll the dice and see what happens - in a forceful way
- I don't think we're done with him by any means.
What can we do?
- If you're in that district - help find a Pro-2A candidate.
- If you're a DFL member in that district - goto the caucus and stand up for the second amendment
