Made it out to Walmart and saw the empty shelves but the good news is that I found out the price for this box of 100 "GMJ" 9mm 115g. The price is NOT listed on the website...$25.77...3 box limit...that's my 'happy price'

I do have a question: What does the "GMJ" designation mean? FMJ would be full metal jacket.....GMJ ????? Is that a thinner copper jacket, partial metal jacket?

Stumped.

Just picked up 3 boxes at the Walmart near where my family lives, same price, hope to pick up more later today.

The Walmart website has about 21 glowing reviews mostly stating that this particular product is

A) cheapest
B) more consistent velocity that Winchester / Remington
C) best value in factory ammo

$25.77 seems to be a 'national' price although some reporting as low as $22.00

The ammo guy at my Walmart said they get M,W,F trucks, I could call and he'd know by 8 pm what they would have and he could hold onto a few for me.

He didn't explicitly mention it at all but I got the vibe that some may have provided him with a 'Tip' for that service :)

GMJ/FMJ are essentially the same, just made differently. FMJ uses a pre-formed jacket that the lead slug is pressed into. GMJ is plated, and cheaper to manufacture. I'm assuming all these bullets were made by CCI/Speer in Lewiston, ID (and assembled in Anoka), since Federal doesn't have a plating operation in Anoka.

Would you say one is better than the other for what ever measure.....consistent size? Thickness of copper plating Structural integrity?

Well, FMJ is [usually] going to have a thicker jacket than a plated bullet. There are those who feel that gives more consistency and better accuracy. I personally haven't noticed a difference, accuracy-wise, between factory FMJ and the plated bullets I use reloading, but one could argue that I'm not good enough at shooting, reloading, or both to be able to tell the difference. :)

I do not know where the components come from. But I have a friend that works in the plating department in Anoka. I do not know what they plate but they do have one.

I guess the downside to GMJ Guilded Metal Jacket is that imperfections in the bullet itself are reflected in the resulting plating the bullet carries. The Kicker is that 'the price is right' and it seems to work fine for lots of people.

I will say this, FMJ and GMJ shoot good for me. But my own cast bullets shoot the best out of my handguns.
