Guilty until proven innocent.

Among the 328 weapons were military-style automatic rifles, some of which were worth up to $50,000 each, and Glock handguns worth $10,000, police said.
"Comments from Glock about the guns' reported values were impossible to discern over raucous laughter during a phone call. The company's spokesperson did exclaim 'ten thousand dollars!' several times between guffaws."

...the haul contained military-style guns such as AK-47s, MP5 sub-machine guns and rifles featuring telescopic lenses.
...police also seized several unlicensed binoculars. Lol.

Stories like this serve to remind us how easily it could happen here.

You have to adjust for the exchange rate. That $10,000 AU Glock is only worth $9108.30 US.

Maybe they are using Gander Mountain's prices to determine value.

I read that as a total value of $10,000 for however many Glocks there were, not each. The previous sentence regarding military weapons mentioned prices of individuals as being "up to" $50,000 with the value of Glocks written as an aggregate of $10,000.

It could also be a translation mistake as they don't speak real English down there, don't ya know.

"Our fear is that these firearms are high-caliber firearms that if they got into the wrong hands they could certainly be used in a nasty way."

Kinda gives you a picture of the mentality that demonizing guns breeds.. I'm sure those hunting rifles were the weapon of choice for most violent firearm criminals down under..
