Beretta 92 compact! Why? because I have one for sale.

HK, if you need a compact the P2000SK will do well. A full size USP in 9x19 is an easy shooter if you're willing to relax the requirement for a compact.

I am really enjoying my CZ75B in stainless. It's a very comfortable well made accurate shooter. I could have spent lots more for a different brand, but this one is good value. It's full size steel so I can shoot it all day long.

Depending on what you want (you said not for carry so full size might suit), CZ makes a variety in 9mm from full size to compact, all metal to composite frame. The trigger can be enhanced with aftermarket parts from CZCustom or Cajun Gun Works, with single action only, short reset, light weight clean breaking SA and lighten the DA quite a bit as well. A longer firing pin can allow for heavier strikes with lighter springs etc.

CZ might be worth your time looking.

PS: probably would not carry a 9MM just looking for something to shoot at paper, after all 9mm is the new .22 cost wise. I would also like something smaller than a full size pistol.

Sig SP2022 is a well-regarded and inexpensive option. If you want the full metal treatment, P226/229/etc will serve well but cost more. If the real requirement is just DA/SA rather than a hammer being a requirement, the Walther P99 AS or P99c AS would be an option. (Striker-fired DA/SA.)

A Sig SP2022 was my 1st handgun and I love it. Great trigger pull, thousands of rounds of any type of ammo with literally zero failures of any kind.

Yeah, if I'd known it existed and was a good option at the time, it's possible I might own one instead of a P99c. At the time, it was a choice between the P99 or P99c and the SIG P229, and the Walthers cost slightly more than half of what the SIG would have, seemed like they'd be easier to carry and conceal (lighter, thinner, and less squared-off edges to catch on things), and had just about as good a rep for reliability, so couldn't really justify the more expensive gun. The SIGs have arguably a *slightly* nicer trigger, but the difference is very small, at least in my opinion. The SP2022, on the other hand, is cheaper than the Walther guns, so it may well have gotten the nod for the same reason, had I known of it at the time. SIG needs to do a better job of promoting that pistol, IMO.

Might want to try the H&K USP Compact. Accurate and handles well.

Love, love, love, my Baby Eagle compact including it's frame mounted safety to match my s&w 3rd gen, but if they had one of the CZs with Ambi safety on the shelf when I was looking I might own that now instead. If you don't have the aversion to tupperware and innate cheapness I do, the FNs I looked at were mighty nice and almost sucked me in.

I love my 92FS. Never a big fan of the decocker on the sigs, but if it was the right deal. Similar with the cz.

The Baby Eagle and Tangfolio/EAA guns are based off/clones of the CZ, and could be other viable options.

What about the FN's appeared to be cheap to you?

No sir, apparently I was not clear. The FN pistols are very nice, it is me that is cheap.

BUL Cherokee from Israel, 3.5" bbl with full size polymer frame, holds 17+1, weighs 25 ounces empty. Got one for $335 from CDNN a couple of years ago. While the final assembly might have been in Israel, there are really Tanfoglio guns, so they work and they're durable.

I had an FN FNX-9 that was super accurate, not terrible to conceal/carry, and was reliable as the day is long. That gun started my compulsion for SA/DA pistols. Then I bought a CZ75 P-07 Duty, which I found to be more accurate, a bit easier to conceal/carry, and had a slightly lighter double action trigger than the FN. I ended up selling the FN, which I now regret doing, and I sent the P-07 to Bill Springfield out in Colorado Springs for a trigger job. He lightened the double action pull considerably, took a lot of the creep out of the single action, and shortened the reset. So now I have a very accurate, nicely triggered SA/DA carry pistol that sees a lot of range time, and I have less than $500 into it, including the trigger job.
