Since when does recreational pot qualify as a civil rights issue?

Because a disproportionate number of those charged with Marijuana violations are minorities.

"Medical" marijuana is also about kicking the government out of the doctor-patient relationship. Sure, it is a step towards normalization and legalization of pot as well, so it has multiple positive impacts.

I was surprised to see a national candidate the first endorsed by MNGOPAC - I thought the focus would be on the state-level races.

Legalization of marijuana for medicinal purposes has nothing to do with medical use. It is an selfish attempt by the potheads and hippies to legalize it for their own recreational use. Then they can hit up doctors with imagined illness to get their pot legally.

Back to the US Senate race in this state, I will vote for anyone running against Franken and his Hollywood and foreign $$$$$.

Is this the part where I'm supposed to point out the two instances of "medical" in the text you quoted so you can come back with some sort of brilliant argument? If so, please start another thread. If not, please start another thread.

Problem is your stance leaves a lot of Minnesotans with chronic pain(I am one of them) with no alternatives to using narcotics in ever increasing doses or to suffer. Medical can be controlled and the use can be limited to those with severe medical conditions that require it. Not for someone who says their muscles ache after work... try living with 3 blown discs in your lower back for years for fun.

It is unfortunate that with two major medical facilities in this state that people still resort to the use of illegal substances for alleviation of pain. If the medical community were the ones advocating for legalization I would be a little more receptive. The other issue is who will determine what it is used for because a lot of people with a simple ache or pain will be seeking it. I have had two herniated lumbar discs so I know what your pain is like.

Unless you are a teetotaler you need to explain your stance on keeping marijuana illegal while permitting alcohol consumption LePeromane.

I am a teetotaler for health reasons. I have enough going on with my health issues without having to worry about the detrimental effects of alcohol.

I feel there is a difference between the pot smokers and alcohol consumers as not all people who consume alcohol do so to get intoxicated whereas all who smoke pot do it for the buzz.

I am also a teetotaler, but I have no desire to see anyone prosecuted for drinking alcohol nor smoking weed. When their behavior affects or endangers me, like DUI, different story. Prohibiting one substance and not the other makes absolutely no more sense than banning certain firearms or magazines.
