I be moving!

Postby lizard55033 on Thu Feb 27, 2014 2:07 pm

Well I'm relocating from Hastings to Coon Rapids this weekend.

What's in the Coon rapids area as far as shooting ranges (indoor and\or outdoor) as well as firearm shops?

Bill's North in Circle Pines (store & Range), Metro Gun Club (Range), Capra's (store), Beaver Brook (Club/Range), Trail's End (store)

There's more I'm sure, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Steelslinger pretty well covered it. I mostly shoot at Metro but I shoot a lot of shotgun. The indoor range isn't fancy but it's cheap. Getting a membership brings the cost down and can save a lot of money, especially if you shoot shotgun too. The shotgun punch cards that members can buy drastically drop the cost.

I think about the only thing he missed in the Gander Mountain in Blaine. If one was so inclined to actually buy stuff there. Also DKMAGS (store) wouldn't be too bad of a drive. Never been there, one of these days I gotta stop in.

The back way to Cabelas in Rogers is pretty quick. Few WM in the area for cheap ammo. Welcome neighbor.

Personally I gave up on Walmart for ammo. Got tired of going in and walking through the whole store only to find nothing on the shelf. Felt like I was wasting too much time.

Pawn shop across from Menards on Main just west of 10 is where all that chain's guns go. It's the only one with a FFL.

Welcome to the neighborhood. 8-)

That actually brings up a good question. What are the good pawn shops for guns?

I know Twin Cities Pawn on Hwy 10 in Ramsey posts a lot of stuff on Armslist but I've never been in their store. I made the mistake of stopping in the Twin Cities Pawn off 81 in Osseo once, store smelled like marijuana and they had very few guns.

I liked that place, if for no other reason than to bum around in it. Unfortunately I always had the impression the prices were a bit too high so I never purchased anything. Sometimes inventory needs to be moved by pricing it at a level that customers feel they are getting a bit of a deal. I'm not suggesting a store should sell under value; just that instead of marking everything up 140 or 150%, maybe sell some things at 110% once in while to keep customers interested in the search. When everything is always above the average price for the same items everywhere else, I lose interest in going back to a store. I'd bet Cabelas did not pay him more than 60% of his retail asking prices. Your experiences with this shop may have been different. Bottom line is that this shop didn't make it though, so something was wrong in the business plan.

Gun dealers do the same thing - list it high expecting to haggle. Sometimes if I find something I like, I'll make an offer, but most of the time when things are ridiculously over priced I just laugh and keep going.

Lincoln Pawn off 65 and, crap I can't think of it. They're across from the Harley dealer just north of where Hwy 10 crosses. They have some guns, but the selection is usually terrible. Their tools are awful too, but maybe that's because someone has beaten me to anything worth buying every single time I've been in the store? They had a job listing for a broker but it was 9/hr plus commission. I can't imagine anyone earning decent money out of that place based on what they have for inventory. Must be buying a lot of gold cheap or something to keep the lights on.

Pawn America puts all their guns online (gunbroker if I was told correctly) so don't even bother looking there.

Lincoln pawn is on 65 and 85th. Between the highway 10s, north of county 10 and south of US 10.

Lizard welcome to the great white northern suburbs!

+1 on Beaverbrook and Bill's North.

Beaverbrook is underused for rifle and handgun and is of course, OUTSIDE! It is a good place to have a leisurely shoot is pretty reasonble for a membership.

I am always happy to bring a guest for a few hours of shooting.

Bill's North gets busy at peak times but it is indoor so a bit more fun when the polar vortex is happening.

Congrats on the move!
