Don't matter if its a little garter snake or a Black Mamba. It dies if I can cause it.

They're ALL Black Mambas.
I don't hate them, and realize most, but not all have a valuable spot in the food chain, but seeing one is like getting tazed- I am instantly paralyzed.

I been hoping to go on a Florida Python hunt sometime, I'm not a trophy hunter, but I could see this thing's head on the wall of my gun room.
After being shoot from 50 yards or so.

Yeah that was the one that really sparked my hatred for them. I'll never forget the image of that thing weaving its head back and forth right behind my head. It was almost like it was trying to lick me. It was about as big as a garter snake as I've ever seen to this day, probably close to 3' long. After I staked to the door jamb (I really didn't know what else to do) the thing just thrashed about for I don't know how long and got blood all over the door and wall. I just went back to bed thinking I could dispose of the evidence before the GF woke up.....didn't play out that way.

To me the "dump in the cornfield" incident was much worse. Just cause I was literally "caught with my pants down" and there was nothing I could do but remain frozen and wait for what seemed to be a mile of snake pass between my feet.

Walking on lake or river ice.
Born and raised in Minnesota, but walking on early December lake ice or river ice even after the first of the year is just crazy to me.
Yes I can carry ice picks that will keep me above the ice and keep me from sucking water into my lungs, but hyperthermia will claim a person in minutes.

nof ear of snakes here, but I had an experience that may have exacerbated my fear of rodents. Was teasing my mom with a big garter snake in the kitchen once. I must have handled it too much or too long, cuz it threw up a partially digested mouse - right there on the kitchen floor. Mom and I both screamed and laughed so hard... Oh my God - there are not words to explain how pissed Dad was when he finally got to the house and saw that no one was in fact being dismembered by escaped mental patients.
I got nothin'

This is something I just don't understand. My sister is an vascular access nurse. All she does is start IV's. She tells me that the biggest chickens are the ones with the most tattoos. I find it odd that they fear clean needles more than dirty ones.

My first tattoo in 1976 was done with a needle sitting on a towel under a UV lamp. Now they used an autoclave which sterilizes the needles, but discolored them somewhat. I figured that was OK since my tools were discolored when I was sterilized. Which has the added benefit that I no longer need to wear paternity suits to work and no one needs to fear my contributing to the proliferation of the rodent population.

Ooooooo, nice Burmese python! Very unfortunate that they got out into the Everglades. Xd ED, take another look at that snake. Now what would be more impressive....just it's head mounted in your gun room, or (more traditionally) 20 feet of very colorful and patterned snake skin? Also, if you want to shoot it and keep the head, um...where are you going to aim? Snakes have elongated hearts and lungs. Kinda hard to aim for the vitals when you can't find the vitals in 20' of snake... :)

I could easily imagine a full mount, climbing the wall, coiled around a limb, but I'm guessing that would get really pricey. Plus while some see a snake, I see raw materials for holsters, belts, wallets, boots, etc.

I figure a head shot to the brain should put it down.
I haven't followed the hunting rules lately, but a few years ago, it was rimfire only for exotic snakes.
A 22mag should handle things at any distance I would shoot.
I've also read that a freeze in the Everglades knocked down the population somewhat.

These things are a huge problem, but the last I checked, Florida was more interested in capitalizing on them than eliminating the things.

I accidentally sterilized myself during a self-administered prostate exam. This might account for my preference for gloves while reloading.

hahahahahahaha!! This was one of the best threads I've read in a while.. until that last one. Hands down the best now. hahahahaha!!

ok, since I'm posting a comment I suppose I should contribute. Bears. Kinda strange though, I'm only afraid of them at night while in a tent. Other than that I like em. Probably stems from a reoccurring nightmare I had as a kid of a bear chasing me around the house. probably made worse by the time I was bear hunting and stayed in the stand too long.. I could hear the bear out there, but he wouldnt come in. Then it got dark, and I had to walk out down this little trail through a stand of poplar slashlings. Then exacerbated by the time we were camping in the boundary waters and I found a deer that had tried to swim to the island, got its legs all tangled in the jumble of rocks along the shore, broke them all off and died. All I could think of was the bear that was surely swimming over to our little island to eat that bear.. and me.

After being bit by a brown recluse that came in a box shipped from OK I HATE spiders, semi hate snakes after crawling down a rock wall on the MN river by New Ulm to catfish and discovering that my favorite rock ledge had a nice rattlesnake sunning on it. I made it back up the rock wall way faster than I came down.

I depreciate the PM's expressing sympathy for my condition. To clarify:

Maybe my attempt at humor was too oblique. When metal stuff is autoclaved it often discolors from the heat. Tattoo needles are now autoclaved and the artist's tools get discolored. That is the same thing that happened to me when I had my peckerectomy, my tools got discolored.

All seriousness aside, I don't attempt self-administered prostate exams. It's a good way to ruin a glove and Dr DRE is gonna want to it himself anyway.

Sorry for the confusion.
