As someone who's been at the ER when burn victims were brought in I think being severely burned is the most frightening thing to me.
You don't know me, son, so let me explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

I'm with you here. I think I'd be more afraid of the needle than a gun or knife.

I'll tell you folks my "needle" story. After September 11th, I drove from NYC to Minneapolis, by myself, with my dog. My wife and newborn daughter were here in MPLS visiting her family. I had no way to leave as the planes were grounded, so I drove. Stayed here a few weeks and drove back to NYC (I've recently moved here, btw). On the way back to NYC, I stopped in Indiana for the night. Just my dog and I. Dog was a diabetic. I have always and still am afraid of needles. I had to give my dog a shot of insulin, twice a day. So, it was the middle of the night and as I was about to give the shot, I stabbed myself with the needle. Within a few minutes I started to feel badly. I was alone. And of course I didn't want to burden my family who couldn't really help me anyway. So, I called the front desk and asked for a wake up call 4 hours later. I said that if I didn't answer to come to the room. Then, I wrote a note explaining what had happened and if they were reading this I was either really sick or dead. And if I was either, that they had to get my dog to the nearest vet because she was diabetic. I left my wife's info and credit card to pay for the vet.

I laugh now, but I was pretty damn scared. If I was at Home Depot when this happened, because of my needle phobia, I can't really say how I'd react.

Randygmn, Your dog is probably a lot more disease free than those filthy disease ridden junkies.

Ain't that the truth, lol. But actually, I stabbed myself immediately prior to the needle ever touching the dog. It was as I was getting ready to administer the shot. Anyway, she's long gone, now. Best dog I was ever owned by.

This of course would depend on the situation.
A couple of gang bangers or wacked out druggies going at each other, I would get the hell out of the area. An innocent person, like a young girl being attacked and dragged away by a few thugs and I was by myself, none of my family present, I may very well get involved. But that would have to be a decision made then, I can't really armchair quarterback that.

That's always something that I've thought about. Wondered what I would do. The innocent young girl, jumping in and doing something MORALLY feels like the right thing to do. But because of society, and how everyone feels they are entitled to sue you or anyone they can just for looking at them wrong. It seems like no matter what you do it's wrong.

If you jump in and do something. Save the girl, but have to shoot a thug because he had her with a gun and shot at you when you interviened, then to me, and others who thinks straight, you did the right thing. To some over aggressive county attorney, and that thugs family, you should have stayed away, and kept your mouth shut. To that little girls parents, you did the right thing. The problem is, someone is going to try and make a name for themselves, and an example out of you. It stinks that society is that way. But that thugs family will try to sue you and it will all be a big mess.

I guess, i'm not gonna lie... If I saw that, honestly.... I'd hope that someone else would jump in first. I'd hope that some one else would want to play "hero" or whatever first. Before i'm faced with having to make a decision. I'd much rather stand back and dial 911. I'd much rather be the witness that said, the permit holder who saved that girl, did the right thing, and I would have done the same thing. He had no choice. The legal fees being the one that said that would be much cheaper, than the legal fees for the one that pulled the trigger.

How thoughtful of you to bring that to my attention.
