power supply

Postby Tubguy on Sun May 04, 2014 6:26 pm

I'm getting my electronic pact scale back from Pact. 5 week turn around time. They said they had to put in a new load cell that was not covered under warranty.
I remember some saying that its a good idea to use a power supply that would provide a constant 120 voltage. But I don't remember what they were using. I think it was bought on ebay reasonably priced.

Does anybody have any suggestions besides not using the scale. I have a RCBS 5-0-5

Any quality computer UPS with power line filtering should work fine.

Another option is the APC LineR. I think it's basically the power conditioning circuit of a UPS but without the backup battery and charger for the battery.

Or if you want to go local this one handles half the amps but it is in stock at Microcenter (though more expensive):

I think Tubguy is referring to a AC/DC power supply for the scale and not a UPS or power filter. The Pact digital scale runs on batteries or on a AC/DC power supply. There have been discussions on forums saying that it is better to run on the AC/DC power instead of batteries for consistent accuracy.

I cannot see what the manufacture name is, the logo is a bit odd but it looks like E/N/G with all characters physically touching. The model number is 35A-12-500 which when Googled does come up. I thought I bought mine through Pact when I bought my scale, long time ago and just not sure.

Accuracy aside, it is possible he is talking about a UPS or power filter. Line voltage can swing out of the input range of the DC power supply which could result in damage to the scale. I think it's a more common issue if you are outside of the city and have long power line runs.
