Woodbury Cabela's

Went there today for the "open house" for silver ($10k annual spend) and black ($25k annual spend) CC holders. They had a pretty good selection of brass, bullets, and ammo. I didn't care about the ammo save for the 22lr on an endcap. Quite a few boxes, one 500 round box of Blazer to a customer for $27.99.

There was a lot of rifle powders a bunch of CFE223, but not much for pistol.

Of course I have no way of knowing what they have in mind for the grand opening or what they are holding in the back. Overall I like the store, the layout and smaller size. I didn't look much at the firearms. Thinking I have enough for awhile.

Do they have a gun library? If not then there is no reason for me to go there to look at firearms. All Glocks start to look the same after a short while.

Yes, they have a Gun Library. It wasn't too impressive as they didn't have much I was interested in.

I was tempted with several items but refrained from purchasing. I walked out with a brick of CCI Blazer and a choke tube wrench. I'll wait until this weekend to make further purchases as that is when they have a Hometown Heroes sale.

I was there tonight as well. I'm sure the gun library will get better with time, seeing as they just opened up. They had some nice stuff in there... Along side the Sig Mosquito and Ruger LCR.....
I'm willing to wait to see some cool stuff.

I was a little surprised at the prices of the firearms. They seemed to be on par with Gander, which I consider high...

I was happy to see a lot of reloading supplies. I asked for my favorite powders... Power Pistol, Varget, RE15... Which they didn't have, but they did write them down and said they wanted to know what people want so Im hoping they get a better selection.

They seemed to have a nice fishing and camping section as well. The fudge was also yummy.

Lots of ammo on the shelves, I also saw the .22LR but passed it by as I'm pretty well stocked.

I like the whole "Cabela's experience" so I was hoping for a larger store with more animals, bigger aquarium, etc... But I knew this would be a much smaller store and I'll take it either way. Cabelas holds a special spot in my heart from my younger days of fishing, so I'm excited that it's here and am looking forward to getting to know the place better.

I was there this evening as well. I missed out on the bulk boxes of Winchester and Blazer .22. My buddy had the day off and hit it earlier and scored on both.

I did get my 180 gr Sierra Game Kings.

The aquarium is a bit smaller than the other stores.

It seems laid out well. I heard that they were going to put the animals on displays on the walls instead of one big display. They also are supposed to have better used the space for product so that the smaller store can hold almost as much as the bigger ones.

Seems nice. It'll be great to be 5 minutes away rather than 1 to 1.5 hours away.

Yeah, I hit the jackpot as far as location with the new Cabela's. 5 minutes away on I-94, although if you take the frontage road on the South side from NW Afton you can moon Gouger Mountain as you drive by on your way to a REAL gun store with actual competitive prices. This might be a positive thing for OGC too, as you can buy ammo that isn't 1.5X retail list and you only have to drive about 4 miles...

Not to get this thread off topic Sam, but I read the meeting minutes from the last OGC board meeting? Why did we turn down use of our range by cabelas instructors when we could have leveraged that into some great marketing? Buy a gun at Cabelas and get 1/2 off range pass to OGC to sight it in! We could have had a really good feeder for new shooters there.

I can see it now. " Buy a gun at Cabelas, get 1/2 off a range pass and put your name on our (3 year) waiting list" would be a great marketing strategy to attract new shooters.

I stopped by Cabelas today and was told at the door that only their club members could enter. Like Groucho Marx, I refuse to join a club that would have me as a member.

WJL- How about "get introduced to shooting outdoors and come here as a paying customer on nice summer days instead of going to bills indoor range and paying more"

Mn01r6,

I have done that and had a nice time. It just seems that the mission of that club is to serve the members rather than introduce new shooters to the sport. I have no problem with that.

I went today. They had $5 boxes of .22lr (50rds) and no bulk packs left.

I made the mistake of informing them their pricing was obscene on their tractors too, and almost got cornered into having to discuss it with management (I didn't want to - I don't get paid to consult them).

After narrowly escaping that trap, I went to the bargain cave and scored some 30rd pmag's for wholesale pricing, and took a look at the library. They've got some reasonable prices on a few guns. Some not so terrible prices on stuff too. Nothing earth shattering, but not a joke either (like that other place Sam's giving a parting shot view).

I like the interior stone work and giant hearth as you walk in. I kinda wish I could make off with it when they weren't looking. I have just the spot it could go... :cogitating: It's a nicely designed entry.

They have some H335, some cfe, RL17, and some other rifle powders. What I saw were $28/lb, but they have it.

Hm, if the .22LR is overpriced (last time I bought some at "gouger" down the road from there, it was *half* of that price for 50 rd boxes) and they only have rifle powders, maybe I don't actually need to stop by there tomorrow morning, but maybe I will anyway just to check the place out.

Some of the .22 I got was $2.99 for 50 rounds and some was $3.49 for 50.

The 500 round boxes of Blazer .22 were $27.99 each. By my math that is $2.80 per 50.
