Got to take out a new shooter this weekend.

Postby Jack's My dog on Mon May 26, 2014 2:19 pm

I went camping this weekend with a few friends to do some morel mushroom hunting, and brought a long a couple of guns to sneak away and do some shooting. One of my buddies had no experience with handguns, and his only prior firearms experience was with a .22 rifle. Before we went out we had the safety talk "keep the booger hook of the bangswitch" conversation and then walked through the 3 types of actions before we introduced the ammo...standard procedure kind of stuff.

We started out with the 9mm then to the .357, then to the .44 mag. I explained to my buddy that it was nothing personal but, I was only giving him 1 round, and if that worked he could have another six. When the gun finally went boom, the look on his face and following laugh, were priceless and made my day of shooting. We also found out the the .44 mag is a reasonably labor efficient, if not cheap way to clear some shooting lanes. The way a 3 inch tree splinters, and then tips over from a good solid hit with the .44 mag, (these were only the PMC bronze 180gr.) paints a good picture of the horse power your holding in your hands. Once my buddy shot his own tree in half, I think he was hooked.

Good times!

Hope you all had a good holiday weekend.

ETA: FYI- We were on private Land with permission to shoot and clear shooting lanes and a known back stop.

And how did the ever elusive morel hunt go? Give me a slab of cow and some of those bad boys sautéed in butter and this is one happy camper.

Ok, not as good as prior years but still fun..enough to have them with eggs for camp breakfast and not feel like we were squandering them.

I bought my wife's 8 year old grandson a BB on Saturday. We had a lot of fun this weekend.

Same! I gave my 7 year old a Red Rider this weekend. He had a blast hitting pop cans.
