Shooting on public land in MN

Nice mushrooming on the Speer Gold Dot. I'm actually saving up a few phone books in case the opportunity presents itself. I don't suppose there might be an evening during the Bursnville Winter pistol league that could be 'Phone book night' where that particular itch could be scratched in a regulated semi-scientific manner....winters do get long. But considering that the place just burned to the ground, I'm not getting my hopes up

Burnsville burned to the ground??!! They had a serious fire...but they're currently open. They didn't tolerate schnanigans BEFORE the fire -- not sure how they'll feel now...

Has anyone recently gone to that Rum River State Forest for target shooting? Does it require a permit to get in?

It's a State Forest, not a State Park. No permit required.

And shooting at a club is 1000% more fun. I highly recommend it.

He did shoot some kind of a medical book with a S&W500, got to 2100+ pages.

West Brach is pretty rough. It's an old gravel pit with little (no) amenities or niceties.

Wild Marsh is a very nice multi discipline range. Very professional, and I have always had good experiences there.

Isanti County Sportsmans Club in Cambridge is my home club.

The latest Google Sat pics of West Branch show it under water I will look up the Isanti range in a moment. I have entered their gun give-a-way at Pinebrook Inn several times Does Wild Marsh still charge per gun even with a membership? I like to bring a half dozen or so guns to the range at a time so I have a bit of variety shooting

I am looking to hit the range with my colt 1911 and somebody please, I have no memberships or much funds but can chip in on gas and have my own ammo at least !!

I can say there are thousands of deer flies at the Rum River State Forest but I was still able to stick around for a couple hours. I checked out both ranges; the east range right off the paved road has one good gravel pile for a backstop and one real tiny not safe backstop. The west range down a couple miles of dusty dirt road has a huge gravel pit backstop so no way anything would get out of there. Also the west range looks like 100 rounds deep easily. Both ranges need some garbage attention so next time I go out there I will pile up all the crap the pigs left behind and burn it.
