Any folks here know or buy reloads from ron in bloomington

I am trying to get my .45 supply up a bit and bought a bag of his .45 JHP for $16 but never got to shoot them as I had to sell the gun shortly after.

He seems to know what he's doing, his stuff looks like factory new and I have not the first clue as to reloading and how easy to have a mistake that blows up my gun / hand,etc.

I was hoping someone here knows him, he is just off 12th ave/ 494 .

Ammo in a bag generally scares me unless we're talking about one of the bulk packs of Federal XM193, and even then I prefer 20 round boxes in the off chance two cartridges end up ass to mouth and get dropped just the right way, etc...

Does this guy sell at the local gun shows by chance? I think I picked up some reloading stuff from him if it's the gent I'm thinking of and the prices were really good, never purchased any ammo though.

Never heard of Ron. But have dealt with Steve at Rollsizing Plus, and can highly recommend him. 612-722-1466 or rollsizingplus "at" yahoo. He has a commercial reloading license/FFl. I forget what the number designation ATF uses for reloaders

Ammo always has an inherent risk and even more so when it's reloaded.

In my opinion it's not worth buying reloads from an individual. Even if he has insurance to cover an error to me it's not worth a finger, eye, hand...

Even with my own reloading if something happens it's on me and only me nobody else has a hand in my reloads.

I guess I already knew this but $16 for 50 JHP ( looks like golden sabre bullets ) is a hell of a deal.

While I don't have a problem with bulk ammo in a bag (most ammo mfgs have something like the 100 boxes of Winchester, ammo cans full etc) I do have a problem with unlicensed sellers for the same reason many mentioned, insurance doesn't replace your hand-face-eye.......! I'm sure most are as careful as I am with my own reloading but it only takes one double load etc. If FFL licensed to re-load is a different story as they have to be regularly inspected and have things in place to stop those things from happening just like the initial MFGs do. Do your own or buy from reputable re-loader would be mine and other's suggestion I'm sure.

Just for giggles, ask him what the "recipe" is for this stuff. If he refuses to tell you, he's an idiot and thinks that his load is magic and other people's aren't. Run away.

Seeing as he is doing this for profit, and selling it in baggies, highly unlikely this guy has an LLC or any kind of liability insurance. Worse yet, the path to the highest profit is the smallest charge of powder, so he's using Bullseye, 231, or Titegroup and a double charge is CERTAINLY possible. Plus a 45 ACP is only good for 21,000 PSI at most, so it's not like you're shooting a Coonan or Smith 500.

The thing about reloads is... while he may be placing a golden saber-ish bullet on top of a nicely polished case you have no idea what's inside, which is what counts. Making a cartridge look pretty when it's assembled is easy, making sure it's done correctly every time is the trick. You could end up with a double charge, a squib, "grabbed the wrong bottle of powder," case necks that are not tensioned or crimped properly leading to bullet setback, brass that's been reloaded 5 times already and is ready to split/separate, etc.. If it's defensive ammo do you know that it's loaded hot enough to actually expand that hollowpoint? Were the primers picked up off the floor of his reloading room and possibly compromised leading to a FTF at the worst possible time?

Companies that invest in an ammo remanufacturing business have a financial and legal incentive to produce a good product and not to blow people up, guys selling cheap bags of ammo for cash out of their garage or gun show table do not.
