What is your favorite .223 Brass?

Postby Jack's My dog on Wed Aug 20, 2014 7:18 am

I just wanted to touch base with you guys and see what you thoughts are on your favorite .223 brass for reloading. As I have done with most of the other calibers I reload, I am planning on purchasing a bulk batch of loaded ammo, and saving the casing's to ensure they are once fired. I will be reloading for a .223 wylde chamber, so I could go 5.56 or .223 but I would like to go with one "caliber" just to keep things simple. Once I get get going on the reloading I think I will start with some plain Jane middle of the road loads for but in the future I would like to start working up some better target ammo for longer distance shooting.

Any favorites, or cases to stay away from?

Federal Lake City 5.56 NATO XM855

-I am just trying to clarify is this ammo noted above "actual" Lake City brass? I have been reading different things about if the American Eagle stuff is actual lake city brass or something else.

On another note, has anyone experienced the loose primer pocket phenomenon with the American Eagle FC stamp .223, that I have seen noted on some forums?

Get some lc from Larry and start reloading. You're expending too much energy. If you want fail proof brass, Norma and Lapua new brass will not disappoint.

My best brass is from Lake City that was never loaded, thus no primers and no-crimp. It has been annealed as all brass for NATO requires, but not polished off like commercial brass. I have about 3000 cases of this type in 5.56X45 configuration which I process with 223REM Redding reloading dies.

Yes.

.308 also. Now when I sort it goes directly to the recycling bin.
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.
