Now, you might be asking, are the officers of the San Diego Unified School District Police (sidebar: is it normal nowadays for school districts to have police departments?) regularly subject to ambushes and/or IEDs? It seems unlikely.

Instead, the district says the vehicle will be used for search and rescue, according to KPBS, the local public broadcaster.

Yeah but it's not what it looks like, they need that to carry the med kits and teddy bears for the kids. I don't know what's more disturbing, that a school needs one of these or that it's not being used to protect our troops.

Why would the troops need it? We're not at war with anyone, right...?

Bet they are torqued off, because they didn't get the belt-fed .50 cal machine-gun to go with it......

...because you know, they might have to break up a playground fight, or one of the kindergartners might make a gun with their fingers...

Nice cover story. Zero reason for a school to get one of these. Why not just post armed soldiers in the schools to deter? Oh, forgot they don't want to militarize our schools.

I don't know why they always pick the M16 as the emergency response weapon. If it was a matter of a close-quarters shootout with an intruder, I'd pick a submachine gun or carbine with ammo less likely to overpenetrate.
