AR ambidextrous mag release suggestions

Postby Vashjir on Tue Nov 04, 2014 9:16 pm

So I'm looking for an ambi mag release and would like some opinions from those who've actually used one or more of the brands out there. They all seem overpriced, so if I'm plunking down $100 for a stupid lever I want it to be a one time purchase.

Norgon Ambi-Catch and Troy Ambidextrous are the two that are doing well and that are properly built. I have seen these in training courses first-hand with left-handed shooters, and they have their advantages. The Norgon is better built and more durable.

If you are not a lefty shooter, there's no reason to an ambi mag release. You can do a rapid mag change with your right hand by reaching back, grasping the mag from the front while using your thumb to depress the mag release. This allows you to release and rip out the mag simultaneously.

Are you a lefty, or are you just wanting to make your gun more ambidextrous for transitioning shoulders?

Lefty, and disabled shooter. I only have about 20% use of my right hand; enough gross motor skills to grab and insert mags, but not enough fine coordination to hit the release button sufficiently and grab the mag.
Right now i have to hold the buffer tube under my left arm, grab the mag with my left hand and hit the release with my right knuckle, or just hit the release and let the mag drop.
