Best suppressed weapon for home defense

Postby Jackpine Savage on Sun Nov 30, 2014 11:13 am

I've been reading the MN suppressor thread and I'm trying to think positive :)

So, leaving out the political discussion, what weapon would you choose?

I've never shot a suppressed firearm, and don't know that much about them. Just from the looks it seems that a suppressed pistol could be unwieldy, the extra length would negate the pistols benefit in moving in confined spaces, and would make weapon retention more difficult.

I'm thinking subsonic SBR, probably an AR in .300 Blackout.

Thoughts?

"No country for old men", suppressed Remington 11-87. Or if you are an "operator", captive bolt pistol.

Integrally suppressed 300blk SBR would be the cat's pj's.

How well do AUGs and/or Tavors work with suppressors? Either would save at least the SBR tax stamp hassle. For that matter, so would a SIG brace "pistol."

I have the new SBX sig brace on my AR pistol, and it's not a stock. I mean, it's not as stable as a stock, it's not as repeatable as a stock, and it can't butt-stroke someone in the face like a stock; so the ATF is right, it's not a stock.

I'm against giving the feds any more un-due money as the next guy - but if we could have cans on a form 1, I'd put that upper on a registered lower and run it as a SBR. I'm pretty sure I could make a 300BLK as quiet as the cycling action in under 10" without being the diameter of a pop can.

I'd have that can on my 9" 300BLK quicker than Al Sharpton can fire up a race riot. If Sig ever gets past wrangling with the ATF and releases the 9mm MPX pistol with brace, a hushed version would become numero uno for repelling home invaders.

300blk for a rifle and the 45 suppresses best for handgun calibers.

I've never warmed up to the bullpups, just don't like that chamber any closer to my face.

So the first thing that pops up on the integrally suppressed .300 Blackout is this, not even an SBR!:

Looks like Spikes has one too. Any others that stand out?

It's easy to hit 1000fps with a 220gr bullet in a 7" 300BLK. There's really no reason to be any longer than you need for the suppressor's function.

We're limited by the speed of sound when trying to keep quiet. Any extra barrel is pointless unless you plan on running supersonic. For a PDW in a house, I would want subs as the primary objective and keeping length down as much as possible just to prevent the muzzle from being any closer to the intruder than absolutely necessary. Even if they can't physically grab it, you can get it hung up on things and that's bad.

So add a 9" long Thunderbeast suppressor to the 7" barrel and it would be the same length as the Daniel Defense, plus you could use the suppressor on another rifle. That would probably be my choice, unless we win the lottery.

I wouldn't turn away a SBR'ed, suppressed mini-Uzi; in either 9mm or .45 ACP. While I'm dreaming... select fire would be nice too...
