They do say "until interview"; i.e., they can't have a conviction checkbox on application so it can go straight into the circular file. A pain in the *** for employers, but not quite lunacy.

Same thing that "ban the box" did here. Can't ask about criminal record until the actual interview.

Tremendous waste of time for employers who cannot employ those with a criminal history.

most companies do an intensive background check these days anyways. usually by an outside agency

The company I work for did an extremely thorough background check on me during the hiring process. I received a report after it was finished, and I couldn't believe how deep it went. Interpol, FBI, state and local agencies... Hell, they even found a couple checks I bounced when I was 18.
