Midway has the Quiet .22's (figure a .22 LR size cartridge with .22 short ballistics - either you need a light recoil sprung semi auto or a bolt/lever action to run them) for $30 a brick, limit 2, $16 shipping for a pair is harsh though.

For the first time in more than a year (probably 2), I actually saw some 22 LR ammo in the Owatonna Mills Fleet Farm on the shelf. It was 100 pack of Winchester 40 gr solids for $7.99. There were 4 packs. Limit one per customer.

I did not buy any. The only 22 LR I'm looking for at this time is match grade 22's.

I will not buy anymore of that Winchester .22. It just does not feed, extract, nor eject the way I would like.

I am going to save the Winchester fodder I have for sharing with those in dire need.

Winchester makes a few different types of .22 LR that show up at local retail - the bulk/HP stuff in 222/333/555 count cartons, the Super X/PowerPoint series in boxes, plastic sleeves and bricks, and the M22 that typically comes in 500/1000 round bricks. They all have different performance and reliability characteristics, I don't care much for the standard Winchester bulk stuff (inconsistent, notable normal number of F2F duds per carton) though the Dynapoints of old were some of the best bulk .22 you could buy. The Super X/PowerPoints (which is what Fleet Farm sells in the red plastic 100 count sleeves) and M22 series stuff have all run well for me though I haven't use as much as the others.

$93 a brick! No thank you! I don't care if they're gold plated. :D

Not gold plated, but this particular lot did put 20 rounds into a 22mm group at 100m from my rifle. That's gotta be worth something. I was actually pretty pleased with the price. Center-X is their mid-grade line, and I fully expected that one of the lots of X-act would be the best performer, which would have had me spending about 2x as much.

Eric,
Does Lupua do accuracy testing with your rifle like Eley does?

ETA: Never mind, your last post answered my question.

For those of you who are metric challenged, 22mm at 100m is aprox 3/4moa. Really impressive for a 20 round group.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Target grade rimfire ammo is a totally different ballgame than your average blaster/bulk target stuff, $93 a brick is a good price for the ammo in question. It would be like comparing Norma match 77 grain .223 ($25 ish a box) to Wolf Polyperformance or Gold 55 grain .223 ($5-6 a box) ammo, both can be fired from the same rifle in otherwise identical circumstances but will have much different results downrange when all other variables are removed.

Yeah, they've got a 100m concrete tunnel with sensors at 50m and again at 100m. Computer screens display the groups at both distances simultaneously so you can see if a good 50m load holds up at 100. It's a pretty impressive setup. $50 covers the testing and as much ammo as you want them to test while you're there. I think we tried 14 different lots.

I stopped in the Blaine Fleet Farm yesterday to look at empty 22LR shelves and was surprised to find 3 222 rounds Winchester boxes so I picked up one. I think I checked the box 2 or 3 to make sure it really was 22LR. I made a comment to one of the sales people in the gun area and he said they had received 3 pallet loads of 22LR in the last two weeks. I think I’ll be checking back soon again.
