I'm saving up for a "proper" long range set-up. I was watching Armslist for rifles in a 6.5 or 7mm caliber, so I would have something to go to the range with in the meantime, and when I saw this one for less than $400, I snatched it up. The scope I already had also.

I hear what you're saying about the Savage package. I tried to do my research, and went with a Rem 700 action because there are lots of parts out there for it. Back when I choose a Vortex over other scopes, it was for the warranty (as you can see, I'm not too careful).

I'll stop there for now, the rest of the story behind this disjointed build is just too boring to get into. But I will say that being able to slap steel at 500 yds with something I helped build is totally worth the lost value of a piece of wood.

I might have done something different myself, but I like the ingenuity.

I haven't figured out why people get so out of shape when someone does anything to THEIR OWN possessions. This isn't a museum piece, or Teddy Roosevelt personal rifle here folks. It's like what was said earlier, if he wants to replace the stock at a later time, it's not like there isn't one to be found. This stock could even be a replacement already, who knows. Also, this is only cosmetic, it's not like he took a die grinder to the chamber.

Anyway, thanks for the idea of using an old TV to use for projects. I've been known to utilize what ever I have on hand to get something done.

Waiting to read about your free floating job. 8-)
