M&P Shield .40 explosions

Postby Northwoods_Jack on Fri Feb 27, 2015 3:23 pm

I would like to pick up a Shield .40, but they seem to go kaboom.

Should I?

Would you?

Shield in .40 is tough ride, 9mm is much softer on the paws.

Does anyone actually "know" of a .40 kaboom? Other than a reloading error.

I've heard the jokes about them, but it's always been 3rd or 4th hand stories. Nothing I would call trustworthy.

I would. And have. I still have all of my fingers and a functional pistol. I too was skeptical reading all the KB banter but shooting factory loads I have had zero problems. There was a lot of Glock .40 KB talk back in the day and I have yet to personally witness one or know anyone personally that has experienced it. It's a bit snappy but not intolerable. If you're in the metro you're welcome to meet me at Metro some time and try it out.

Mrs. LePetomane had one for a while. The gun was okay but nothing special. I don't feel the gun lives up to the hype. It didn't explode, however.

Here's a "kboom" that actually happened several years ago. The "real" cause is still unknown and I still shoot 40 S&W Glocks with pleasure. The pictures of the blown aluminum case have been deleted from MNGUNTALK, because of age I suppose.

This story, among others, seems troubling.

I have a Shield 9mm, and I like it a lot.

+1 for the 9mm Shield, I love mine. The .40 is no fun to shoot.

Are you serious? The S&W Shield is no better than the compact Glocks or the Beretta Nano. Maybe someday you will shoot something worthwhile instead of a "run of the mill"fad gun. You need to get out more.

WTF, is this mild winter taking its toll on this site?

Firstly - my typical "run of the mill" carry gun is apparently a 100+ year old designed fad and the only 9mm I own is a six shot single action revolver. Nor have I shot a shield (or even considered buying one) nor do I own a Glock let alone many Glocks that would necessitate an entire Glock rack.
