22 ammo shortage ease up yet?

Postby LarryP on Tue Jun 02, 2015 10:03 pm

Haven't looked for a long time, what's the status of getting .22 ammo lately?

Guess not. A place I stop by on a trip usually has plenty but had 2 small packs of cci I grabbed. Can't believe this is still going on. Nuts.

Two recent trips to Walmart, they had .22lr on the shelf. First time I've seen it there in close to 2 years. Overall the ammo case has been about 75% full, rather than 20%, recently.

Actually found some at the Fleet Farm in Lakeville about three weeks ago (maybe four). Price wasn't the greatest ($3.69/50), but they had some.

Nope, and prices will never return to what they used to be. This is the new normal.

I wonder if ammo companies are the blame now. It's been to long since this started. Seems like the so called gas shortage.

With everyone getting outside to shoot now it's just getting worse.
We have 2 boxes of CCI 22 long on the shelf.
The rest that we get in we have to save for customers buying a rifle or pistol in 22.

I think you could argue that to an extent. But I would guess the issue is there is reluctance to invest in increasing production of an item with such a small profit margin. Uncertainties about sales forecasts if you were to raise prices to cover costs and the current political climate I'm sure don't help the overall picture.

Based on the contacts I have in the industry they say production for 22 is and will remain the the same for many years. The plants they have run full production and will continue and they have no interest in investing in new plants. In turn 22 use has grown exponentially due mostly to the AR based platform. Thus the shortages we experience should remain the norm for the foreseeable future.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: There will be NO letup on the shortage until Obama is out of office AND we have a Republican POTUS, as opposed to the POtuS we have now!!

And considering the way the Republicans are all backing off on the Gulf wars now but supported GW with his WMD false intel and are pissing off all the brave Americans who served over there, that may be a very cold day in hell.

We're not there yet!!
We're not there yet!
We're not there yet!!
We may never be there again!!!

Your name is NOT Dorothy, you don't have ruby shoes to click together, so get over it!!!

Keep an eye on this thread. There's plenty of .22LR to be found. ;)

Federal is currently making and shipping over 4 million rounds per day and will be adding another loading line this year. I don't know about Remington or Winchester but I would bet that they are at about the same level. One thing to remember is that load lines are not a plug and play item and capital has to be justified.
