In my case, it's not the paperwork that is holding me back. I already did the NFA trust. For me, it comes down mainly to cost vs utility. There is absolutely no doubt that firing a .22 that sounds like an airgun would be cool, but I don't know if it is $500-$700 worth of cool. Add the extra cleaning steps and crap blown back into the action of a semi auto and the cool becomes a little more bothersome.
Centerfire doesn't sound like it's hearing safe even with a suppressor. Couple that with public ranges where not all shooters will have them, and ear protection is still a must for me.
It's also just dang tough to make a decision on what to buy. There seem to be no standardized tests out there for comparison. The idea of spending the money and waiting 6 months for what may turn out to be less than you expected is definitely a factor. I may change my mind once more dealers actually start selling them locally so we can see them in person.
Definitely not saying I won't ever buy one, but may wait until our state has a more established dealer network and I can learn more about them or see them in action.
