Permit to purchase application St. Paul MN

Postby Not2Day on Mon Aug 03, 2015 6:29 pm

First I would like to say im glad to report that I found this site. Done a couple hours of reading but not finding a direct answer to my question. Although I did read a thread from 2013 where members were reporting periods of up to 2 months to recieve their permit in the mail. Sounded like St. Paul pd was giving people somewhat of the runaround pertaining to the "within 7 days" I am going in tomorrow to apply and im wondering if anyone here has any received experience with St. Paul and have any advice for me? Thanks and ill report back tomorrow.

I've seen data from a period of time in 2014 that showed the PTPs being generally issued on time, with a few exceptions, from St. Paul PD.

Please do share your experience - it will help us know where to focus.

Thanks!

Here is the FULL current Permit To Purchase application.

https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/bca/bca-divisions/administrative/Documents/Permit-to-Purchase-Transfer-Application.pdf

Be sure they give you the last page; YOUR RECEIPT! It is your record of the date of the application. When the 7 days starts.

In my experience, bstrawse is correct, SPPD is pretty good about timeliness. Granted, my experience is over ten years old, but back then they were very good.

Same here, I got one several years ago and had it within the 7 days.

Went down today to submit my application. Went up to the 3rd floor records counter at SPPD (for those familiar) and a gentleman took my application and made a copy of my DL. He came back and said "were running 7 to 10 days for purchase permits right now" I asked him if I could have the "receipt" which is the last page. He shrugged his shoulders while looking at the paper and said "I dont see why not, ill make you a copy" Seemed like a nice enough guy. Ill report back next week. :bravo:

It should be standard procedure to give out the receipt. No one should have to ask for it.

Permit to purchase application St. Paul MN

I filed a MN Data Practices Act Request for GOCRA on St Paul PD p2p processing times. I believe there were only 3 instances where it took longer than 7 calendar days to process the application. Delivery through the mail may take a few additional days after processing. Overall, St Paul PD did a good job at getting permits processed within the 7 days allowed by statute.

Like others, It's been a long while since I regularly/ annually applied for a PtP from SPPD.
They were always professional, (even when I wasn't dealing with a neighbor or high school acquaintance).

I don't ever recall a long delay after applying.
Although, if memory correctly serves me, there were times when the permit had to be picked up in person, not mailed. This would be 10 - 25+ years ago.

I should have mentioned this is my first time applying to purchase a firearm so all new to me. One thing worth mentioning is that I am a "safe at home" program participant. Well see if that has any affect with my application which lists my assigned PO Box as my actual address. The guy at the counter said he had never heard of safe at home but took a copy of my program card. Well see and thanks everyone for their input.

If you have reason to believe you are in danger, a permit to carry can be gotten through emergency issuance. Others on board here can help you out. . .
