I went to the range today, and I brought the USP45 and M&P 9mm with me. I shot the 9mm to get a baseline then I went to the UPS45. First impressions were that the grip feels big compared to the M&P. I have the small back strap on the M&P as it is the most comfortable for my smaller hands. The USP is a larger hand gun, but it felt nice to shoot. I found myself not being able to cup and support my my wrist as much as I typically do with the M&P. The trigger pull in double action mode is long and heavy, Single action mode is shorter and a lot lighter. The single action mode appears to be lighter than my M&P. Obviously the recoil is more noticeable, but I don't it doesn't feel as sharp and the M&P. I assume this is due to the larger weight of the USP, and the slower fps of the .45 round. I was pleasantly surprised how consistent I was with the USP for the first (2) Magazines. I am usually not the most consistent shooter but I had a nice grouping at 10 yards. Overall I am happy with the purchase, and I think I will enjoy shooting it. However if a USP9 comes around for the right price, this one might be passed along.
One thing that did surprise me was how the rounds lined up in the Magazine, I purchased a Uplula mag loader this weekend and tried out it out first with the USP mags. After I had it loaded, I thought the rounds were not stacking correctly as I could not see brass through every hole in the mag. With all other mags I have loaded, you can see brass or the primer through each hole. I unloaded it, counted the rounds and reloaded it by hand. I had the same results. I once again unloaded, and reloaded by hand and made sure each round was pushed all the way towards the back of the mag. I still had the same results. You can see what I mean in the pictures, the magazine is completely full in both pictures. Both magazines did this whether they were hand loaded or using the Uplula loader. I assume that this is normal, or the tolerances were a little off from the factory. I had no feed issues during my time at the range.
