Airspace;

In addition to communicating with the local air traffic control facility, aircraft are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar a ten minute "heads up" that they will be transiting Iranian airspace. This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination. This exchange was overheard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai.

Air Defense Radar: "Unknown aircraft at (location undisclosed), you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself."

Aircraft: "This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace."

Air Defense Radar: "You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!"

Aircraft: "Roger that. This is a United States Navy F-18 fighter jet. Send 'em up!"

Air Defense Radar: ............... (no response ... total silence)

I must say, from a former Aviation Hydraulic Mechanic, that no doubt in my mind that F/A-18 Legacy for Super Honet will mop any Iranian Aircraft.

You would have to be an absolute fool to mess with ANY of our aircraft or pilots. You aint got the skills or the technology to compete.

Agree. Seems we have a recent addition who is a retired pilot..........maybe flyby will weigh in on this.

Actually, I am a firm believer that you are a fool to mess with any our armed forces. All inter-service joking aside. 8-)

You mean all inter-service joking should now commence?

my daughter flew a super hornet while aboard carriers. she started out of pensacola flying a tomcat. she thinks the super hornet is the better aircraft .......
but she would rather fly the tomcat. in her words, "it's just so cool tracking 32 targets at once!"
she is now land based in norfolk. was training other pilots how to jump off and on flat tops. now she is studying to become a doctor.
sorry for the drift.

I'm just guessing but with the training and seat time differential I'd bet a well trained US military pilot in a Vietnam era F4 could beat what the Iranian air force has to offer.

Well well...now this is my kind of topic. Grant it...being the bus driving , trash hauling...tighty whitey Air Force type....I might know a thing or two regarding airspace..."foreign" air traffic control, and inter service bragging rights. So if I may:

1. ComradeBurg...SAM you say??? Bahh, childs play. Some day lets chat..I've got a little story about that!!

2. THe C-130 Herc...or rather the tactical bus/trash hauler may not be fast...but we sure are slow. We may not fly high...but damn can we go low...we may not be a fighter, but we bring you home :cheerleader2: ....in fact we also bring you bullets, and beans, and replacement personnel...we get down and dirty, in fact its the dirt that we love, go ahead try landing a Tom Cat on 500' of mud...CArrier landings? No sweat, we got that covered too...and out maneuver an F-16, yep been there done that (granted you only get one chance), now load us up with ammo, don't be shy we can carry the big guns..AC-130 Specter scares them every time :gun: ...or perhaps its hurricanes and fire you like to play in, yep we like that too, so really as you all can see, there's really not much we can't do.

Now the final point, and I think its valid...at Least in a trash hauler I don't have to wet myself. :booyah: ..and those pizza'a taste great from that little oven...

But to the original post..."foreign" ATC ~ lots of ways to mess with them...just try putting a female on the radio!! :o

Finally to PastorPaul - you obviously have an amazing daughter, thank her for her service and especially for all the sh*@ she no doubt put up with in order to serve this fine country!! :bravo: :salute: :thankyou:

SAMs and Shrikes are OK. AC-130 Specters are scary cool, no arguing that but I get misty eyed when I see a A10 Warthog strafing an Iranian control tower that did not show the proper respect. Warthogs are the pinnacle of American destructive coolness.
