Coonan 45acp

Postby Rodentman on Sun Nov 22, 2015 7:40 am

Coonan is applying their technology in modifying the 1911 to shoot .357 mag to now make a Coonan in 45acp.

No I am not buying one. They're $1,500-$1,700

Isn't that just a 1911 then?

For that kind of money, it better be able to shoot 45 Super!! Even then, it's kind of s step down for Coonan. Their gun will digest HOT 357 mag ammo without a whimper, and the only competition it ever had was the ungainly and huge Desert Eagle in 357 Mag, which was a really silly "puny" caliber to have in a gun that can take 44 mag and the 50 AE.

I have had the equivalent of whatever Coonan is bringing out for quite some time, and it's a Springfield V-16 longslide that is STAMPED "45 Super" on the frame. Cost me $600 NIB from Gunstop, because it had a small stain on it from Howard spilling coffee on it, so he gave me a discount. Puts a 230 grain 45 bullet out the spout at a level 1200 FPS with no problems.

What is Coonan thinking here??

I agree it should be able to shoot 45 Super but I'm still not buying one. I shoot 45 Super out of my 625 and I suspect the FA83 could handle it. Well sure, since it's the 454 with a cylinder for 45acp.

The 357 Coonan is a lot of fun and it's great with full house loads. In fact it demands them.

Perhaps they should try chambering it for the 45 Win Mag.
That could be really interesting.
The COL is very nearly the same as that of the .357.
