The current offerings on the market tday are highly limited and many shooters are giving up on quality and settling for brands that do not deliver. There is no Ruger 22 worth the money. If you buy one and re-do the trigger, put a real barrel on it and buy grips that fit..then and only then..MAYBE. Smith and Wesson M-41....they threw the towel in on this one. So, should you buy the new stuff- immediately go to Jim Clark and get a barrel, and have him thhrow a trigger job in it. He has a web site. The factory trigger is only nice and no better. However, if you buy a 60's version, you will get a blue job, better accuracy etc, for cheap....like 900$. The new High-Standards----stay away. ! The Mitchel High Standard is total junk. The Older Hamden High Standards are still popping up on Gunbroker for 700, get the push button take down model, not the set screw one! You will have to buy Rink or Herrett's grips to make it talk. Colt? ..... Don't. Browning Medalist wasn't too bad, but severely overpriced then and now....if you can find. Rotten grip angle (so don't). The little Hammerli Trailside was dropped, right after it was discovered as a 'sleeper' bullseye gun. Cheaply priced, too BUY IMMEDIATELY Only one problem....hard to find. But, you NEED to buy from Larry's in Grey VT the x-cess grips, the adj site if you don't have, the barrel weight and the AL trigger and magazines right away. Too many people are finding out that the $300 gun is a $1000 bullgun in disguise!!!!Only buy the 6" stay away from the shorty, it hangs poorly in the hand--to littl weight in the muzzle. If you have bought one, BUY A 2nd one Now!! If you've 1911 fever, the ACE is only choice, unless you want to buy the Ceiner conv for the Kimber...you may get good results. Neither are target guns, and never will be. O/W, The best choice today is Hammerli 215, still under 1100 to 1900 in good shape, if you shop, and the glossy version is the 208s. for only about 1800$US. Gaurantee you like this. Avoid Hammerli SP series. The Walther Rapid fires are iffy. But Pardini and TOZ crank out some good Europa models; get out check book. All highly reccommended. The Sig Hammerli P-240 in 22 (conv from 32 or 38 Special) is sweet, rare and actually looks like a real pistol. Also reccommended as fairly priced around 3200$ Happy shooting. It's only money....
