Self-defense story of the day...

Postby Hmac on Wed Jan 13, 2016 10:11 am

Two would-be robbers who were fatally shot at a liquor store in the Gresham (Chicago suburb) neighborhood Saturday night have been identified as a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, authorities said.

Keshawn Marzette, 15, of the 8300 block of South Throop Street, and William Larson, 17, of the same address, were pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Autopsies Sunday determined both died of multiple gunshot wounds and their deaths were classified as homicides, the office said.

The two were shot to death by a store employee about 8:30 p.m. when they tried to rob Z&S Food & Liquor in the 1300 block of West 87th Street, sources said.

And given its Chicago, most likely the shooter will be arrested and probably convicted of something, even if it is just possession of a gun.

It's the owner's second go-around for armed self-defense of his store. He got by with it at least once before.

No sympathy from me. Except for the guy that had to shoot them.

Of course according to the one's sister, he was just turning his life around. Yeah right.......just one last liquor store to rob before he headed off to college.

Yeah, I heard that his fallback if he didn't get into Triton Community College (graduation rate 14% after an average of 3 years in their 2-year program) was Yale Divinity School. ;)

Blame the parents and the community. And the larger 'community' that actively fails to discourage this punk behavior.

Thought that also, but if you do a search for homicide, some define it as a person taking another's life, so maybe not murder depending on which definition is used. Don't know, homicide to me means murder.

There are only 5 classifications applicable by the coroner in categorizing the manner of death:

1--natural
2--accidental
3--homicide
4--suicide
5--undetermined

"Self-defense" isn't a death classification. It's a legal determination by the District Attorney, not the coroner. In the of these two budding young brain surgeons, the manner of death is homicide...none of the other four possibilities is applicable. The manner of those deaths has nothing to do with the legality of those deaths.

Monday afternoon, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the department doesn’t anticipate the store employee will be charged in the shooting. But he had no other immediate information.

I hope the shopkeeper isn't subject to harassment and protests, or worse, an attempt at a revenge killing. May be cowardly and seen as giving up, but at this point, I would try to sell my shop and move out of Chicago.

How did a street gang banger get a name like William Larson?

It seems like every time one of these hoodlums is trying to get their life back together they get shot.
Donald Trump got more fat women moving in one day than Michelle Obama did in eight years.
