Obama: Don't stock up on guns

Postby TC95GT on Mon Dec 08, 2008 10:22 am

BY ABDON M. PALLASCH Political Reporter

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.

"I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment," Obama said at a news conference. "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word."

But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.

"Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold," Arulanandam said.

Obama answered "yes" in 1996 to a questionnaire from an Illinois group on whether he supported a handgun ban. But he later said a staffer filled out that answer and he did not support a ban.

Nationally, background checks for gun purchases jumped nearly 49 percent during the week Obama was elected, compared with the same time period last year, according to the FBI's National Instant Background Check System.

Anecdotally, gun dealers around the country have reported spikes in sales. The Illinois State Rifle Association Reports gun sales for November were 38 percent higher than last year.

"We don't dispute [the gun sales hike] because the numbers from the federal system certainly confirm that there is increased activity out there. We just think it's a bit stupid," said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence.

"Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don't think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more."

Any time someone says this, you better look out. It's a code they use to try to hypnotize you so they can sneak up on you with some more "common sense gun laws".

I don't believe in the second amendment, I *know* it exists. It doesn't require any belief on my part.

And I believe absolutely nothing that comes from Obama whatsoever. "Common Sense" has shown us all that this should be the case.

Don't stock up on guns

2 Thoughts .

1. Obama wants us not to Stock up because it is harder to "Get them back" from the people, I.E. Raid 1 gunshop Verses Hundreds of Homes.

2. If he has to "Buy Back" it would be cheaper at the wholesale level.

I reciently sold most of my Collection to a friend in Saint Paul.

Just a few weeks after the sale, he died from Cancer.

So, protecting yourself from crime is the only reason to have a gun, and once you have one, it's "enough"?

Way to completely misunderstand the Constitution, dickhead.

If he really believed in the 2nd amendment, he would be HAPPY that people are buying guns. After all, it is good for the economy.....

Since he is a lying POS, he doesn't want us to buy guns and stimulate the economy.
It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

Of course he believes in it. Its existence galls him to no end. The problem is that he doesn't agree with it...

I think every gun owner in America should send our newly "elected" "leader" a copy of the text of the Second Amendmend with the words "shall not be infringed" underlined, italicised, bold, starred, highlighted with arrows pointed towards it. Would it change his mind? Probably not, but at least (assuming we could get 100 million or so people to send such a letter) it would go a long ways towards letting him know how many potential second term voters he would piss off if he steps on their collective toes.

Yes, I am aware that these people probably didn't vote for him this time either, but at least the voice would be heard. (that, and there would be one hell of a logjam of mail at the White House ;)
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

Or how about the the most important part of the Constitution? "We hold these truths to be self evident..." These aren't privileges, they are rights; ours because we are citizens, not granted by anyone. Citizens cannot be separated from their inalienable rights, and there's a reason that the 2nd Amendment is the second in the Bill of Rights, behind only freedom of expression and religion.

It absolutely sickened me that the Heller case was decided along party lines. If the Supremes cared a whit about the Constitution, it would have been 9-0. How about some state legislature passes a law banning the Lutheran Church, and we'll see the Supreme Court actually debate whether it's inconsistent with the Constitution. That would make about as much sense.

BHO: "Well, on the gun issue, I believe in commonsense gun safety laws, and I believe in the Second Amendment. And so, lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I've said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. And I think that people can take me at my word."

Well, of course. And what IS his word?

Well, according to his Transition website here it is this:

Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.

Uh, huh. I guess those of us who refuse to cede to the federal government the power to control all private firearms sales and those of us with evil, scary semiautomatic rifles do not fall into Obama's understanding of "lawful gun owners."

Hmmmm, let me first say, Barrack Obama has said not one thing, during his whole campaign, against Hillary Clinton, or John McCain, that CLEARY states how he feels, or how he's is going to do anything, about what he has commented on. NOT ONE THING. The man is a true politition, in every sense of the word. I've never seen such a silver forked tongued SOB in my 49 years on earth. He can speak for hours, yet not say anything, besides, ughhhhhhhhh about a billion times.

Now, when he says something as plain and CLEAR as, I support the 2nd. My spidey senses are tingling big time! :o ;) :geek:
