Sheesh!! I am the 800 lb. RELOADING TROLL!! Where the hell did the gorilla label come from?? Do you have Alzheimer's, Oldman??

Point #1: 20mm is far from a n00b. as such, he will tough, stinky, smell like burning Retumbo, which actually smells exactly like a diaper pail of diapers with pee in them. This is actually a fact!! Touch off a round of .338 Ultramag or .338 Lapua and you will get that distinctive PEE smell.

Not sure about the 270 in the 7.62x51 or .308. IIRC, the 270 is the 30-06 (aka) 7.62x63 necked down to 270, and not sure how you gonna get that in a 7.62x51mm chamber. I call fraud on 20mm for coming up with silly BS that can't be real for different reasons than the bullet vs. bore mismatch.

Sheesh, it was just an attempt at thinly veiled levity, per usual 20mm. The fact closing a short action bolt on a 270 is nearly impossible should have been the dead give away... at least in theory.... don't be one of "those people" that tries to take everything on the internet as fact and gospel.

Just like some where on the internet(*cough* TiggerTimeTV *cough*) states the 308 and 7.62 have a 24% difference in pressures, when the truth is:
7.62 = 55,000 C.U.P = 415.00MPa (60,191 PSI per NATO/EVAPT)
308 = 60,000 C.I.P = 415.00MPa (62,000 PSI per SAAMI)
Hmmm, 308 vs 7.62 pressure differences have gotten plenty of internet forum discussion over the years as a result... maybe we do need the 800lb reloading gorilla to keep things in line after all... Carry on :P

Some just have difficulty with comprehension.................labels like "gorilla" can amount to much broader consequences and that once defined, it’s easy for these labels to be applied inciting “harassment,” “intimidation” and “bullying”, especially because the labels are so ill-defined and potentially so broad.”.............

It is interesting that there is no load data in the Hornady Reloading book or online data for 7.62x51. They do have a section called 308 Service Rifle which I am assuming is the 7.62x51.

I just ordered a Sig 716 DMR so I am filling up my wait time researching the load data.

Thanks for the information and the perspective on this.

I don't own a single Hornady reloading book, but I'm speculating the "service rifle" section is loads for M1 Garands and m14's. Personally, I would just use the regular 308 load section as your Sig 716 will be just fine shooting standard 308 loads... feel free to e-mail Sig Customer Service to confirm.

Just remember when reloading for any new firearm, best practice is always to start low and work your way up as each firearm is different.

I suspect it is not for m1s, just guessing.

Fair enough... Curious what you believe it pertains to though?

The Hornady Book 8th Ed, description of the 308 Winchester Service Rilfe starts out that the M1A/M14 was one of the best know service rifles...

It also has an M1 Garand section right after the 30-06. I think this is what he is referring too.

While there are a few M1s converted to .308 and some special models the M1 Garand shoots 30-06.

I was guessing "service rifle" section would cover both calibers, but appears you were correct they break 30-06 M1 into a seperate section per bp.
Kudos to you sir
