That is what I do. Range bags are for the range. Backpack for traveling. Ammo and firearms are transported in specific bags, boxes, and cases. Those are never used for travel.
Firearms and ammo are locked up after visits to the range.
Firearms and ammo are accounted for and storage is not left undone lest it be forgotten and security is compromised.
I hate the excuse that someone forgot the firearm was in the bag. So they had a firearm left unattended and basically out of their control. Firearms are not something that should ever be forgotten. Forget targets, ear protection, eye protection... The firearm should never be forgotten.
