Last year I too got the itch for a revolver. Picked up a used Smith & Wesson 4" 686. This gun is a lot of fun to shoot. Warning - this can be addictive. I want to add more revolvers to my collection but it is not in the budget at the moment.

The other one that I was considering was the Ruger GP100. I would have gone with either one but I found the 686 first. If you are interested in used, checkout southwest-arms.com - they have a used Ruger listed: http://www.southwest-arms.com/used-guns.html.

I love my 4" GP100 .38/.357

Paid $500 used a few months back.

Gun Stop seems to usually have few used with good prices. I don't think you can go wrong with a Smith or a Ruger in 357. Be forewarned wheel guns tend to multiply....

I would check both gunstop and southwest arms for nice GP 100s. Can't go wrong with a 686 either. But you know that Ruger will love you back. I got the GP 100 Match Champion and just love shooting it. Accurate and smooth. Looks great too! After that I just had to have it's little brother too, an sp101. You have been warned.

Mrs. LePetomane has an SP101. It's a nice gun with .38 specials but .357 magnums are a little too much recoil.

I'm surprised there's not more love in the world for the convertible that I mentioned above. Unless you really want a double action. The convertible is a fantastic revolver and being able to shoot 9mm makes it super cheap to shoot. Assuming this is meant as a range toy and not for carry.

I got a Taurus 685. It's a .357/.38 revolver. Decent enough for range time. Not hard to shoot and has a transfer bar firing system.

The eaa windicator is a nice pistol also. But it does not have a transfer bar firing system. Good night stand gun, but not for carry IMO.

Both guns were bought brand new for under $300 each.

1st revolver

I can credit Oldman's GP100 for my getting one. Like the 5" myself. It's a fun shooter and a keeper. I put Wilson FireSights on mine. Or is that Williams? Either way I can now hit what I'm aiming for as the sights are visible. Black on black was hard for my old eyes. Welcome to wheel gun fun!

4" 686P. Hands down favorite handgun. Shooting .38 is super soft and makes plinking fun, and hot .357 loads are fun to shoot out of it :D

I've been thinking about a revolver for quite a while and like that option. I prefer the more traditional style guns, like the Blackhawk, too.

I've got a GP100 and an SP101 and they're both great, but I got them for carry guns. For a range fun gun I like Ghost's idea of a single action cowboy-style gun.

I'm a big fan of multi caliber revolvers.
357/38/9mm Blackhawk
45C/45ACP Blackhawk
460mag/454 casull/45C S&W 460V

I added revolvers when I started shooting at Gander Lakeville so I could keep my brass. My only dislike is they are slow to reload but that saves me money.

Sorry. Been away for a bit trying to shoot a turkey. This gun does intrest me as well but have not handled one. It will go on the list when I go looking more closely at them.
