Personally I would not do that. Pleading a case before anyone has accused you of wrong doing rarely is a good idea. Keep in mind most departments have just one or two people who process permit requests and it's usually not the chief. Those individuals are probably much better versed in the law than anyone else because for them to issue a permit to a ineligible individual would be very very bad for them. So unless you get the rookie processing your request it will probably be just fine. And if they do deny you based on age that should be pretty easy to appeal.

Yeah, agreed. I filled out the form last night, but I lost my ID last month when I was out of state, so I'm waiting on my new one. I hope it will get here by the end of the week.

You might have wanted to wait a bit. you CANNOT get your PTP without showing a valid MN drivers license (or other state approved ID)....which they will then make a copy of (along with the approved PTP).

He is waiting... you might want to re-read that. However I'm not sure your statement is true in call cases. I don't recall the police dept checking my ID when I dropped off the form and they mailed me the PTP when they approved it. I honestly don't think I ever showed an ID.

I'm looking for something for more of mid-range or maybe even CQB, since I have several long-range bolt-action rifles already. I had my eye on some of the CMMG ar's, since I've heard good things about them and the price in decent. Not as fimiliar with ak's though.

Stop in Southwest Arms in Savage. They have several very good entry level rifles including the ruger 556 and the smith and Wesson M&P. As far as AR's go though, there aren't a lot of bad ones. Different rifles will have different features, but if you're new to AR's you probably won't know what you want until you get some experience. AK's are fun, but nobody shoots AK's. AR's will be easier to learn on and give you more flexibility/customization.

Indeed. I know for me that was a big reason to act now, since we all know about the Clinton ban. So for me, it may be now or never.

That's what I hear. But I'd like to pick one up before the election if possible, just in case Hillary tries to follow in her husbands footsteps when it comes to gun rights.
