My house would sink into the ground!!!

Your hand would fall off if you shot 10,000 rounds from some of those pistols.

I had always figured 1000 rounds per firearm was sufficient.

But my choice of firearms at one time exceeded 64 with the 1000 personal requirement.

Lately I've not kept up to my personal standard, but exceeded it on several, like 22LR, 9mm, 40, 38, 357, 45, 5.56X45, 7.62X39, 7.62X51, 30-06, & 30-30. I've been slowly reducing the number of items in my collection - kids have "taken" 15 with ammo when they moved out on to their own lives.

And before anyone asks, yes I have more than 1K rounds for my 50BMG target rifle. (tho' most won't fit my MATCH chambering in its current configuration - a barrel switch would take less than 30 minutes to revert back to mil-spec chambering with muzzle brake.)

In a SHTF situation, I'm going over to Oldman's place.

1- He lives in the sticks

2- Between both of us, we can load enough ammo to stop most threats.

3- 2 50 BMG's will allow us to stop most vehicles before they get close.

4- He has fresh Meat, walking behind his house all the time. We just have to distract Mrs. Oldman long enough to shoot the "meat"

5- He has Murphy T the Wonder Dog, Guard Duty is covered :gun:

No matter how hard I twist my brain. I can't come up with any kind of bizzarro land EOTWAWKI scenario where I would use 10K rounds of 7mm Mag in my lifetime. 6BR kinda lands in the same boat now that there are no longer any F-Class matches in my area. 10K rounds of .25 ACP for my little derringer is almost as comical, considering in 15 years or so, I haven't burned through a box of 50.

And if the S really HTF......how many gunfights does one really think they'll live through??? If you make it through a thousand rounds on your own, I'd say you beat the odds by about 99.5%.

Forget sinking. With all those exotics, you'd have to sell your house just to be able to afford all that ammo. Wow.

(I must admit, that if there was one caliber that I would splurge on just for fun, it would be the 338lpm. Fantastic ballistics.)

Good point. Should stock up on 5.56, 7.62x39, .308, .38, .357, 9mm, 45, and if zombies 22lr. At least with those when the death squads come rolling through they can utilize your ammo after you have been neutralized.

If S hit the F I would have no practical use for my 6.5 carcano as I couldn't carry all 10,000 rounds nor would I find any laying anywhere and staying where I live would likely not happen long enough to shoot 10,000 rounds. I would also die well before I shot it all at the range.

The only type of SHTF that I see as possible is actually a civil conflict. Some guys think natural disasters, financial collapse, etc. but I think we are closer to a civil war now than any time in history since the last one. That ammo could come in handy. It will be the new "money". And if there's really bans or buying limits, ammo and firearms could be the most important items I could leave my heirs.
