What is the process in becoming a member at Gopher? I was looking at that range a while back and hear nothing but rave reviews from its members.

you don't want to join GRRC. Waiting list is as long as I've ever seen it.

Are you a member there? Whats the longest range? Fees? Caliber/weapon constraints?

The better question is, how long is the list / wait?

New members are introduced every Jan. It's obviously too late to get in next month, but if you go through the process and get on the list now, it should be 13 months before you become a member. The longer you wait, the greater the chance there might not be a slot the following Jan. Now is a good time to apply.

It was my understanding that you had to have a sponsor before you were able to apply for membership. Can you refer me to anyone to start the process?

What I meant to say was their website claims that the range goes out to 350 yards, is this accurate?

I'm there almost weekly.

The two ell river members I know have dropped membership due to various reasons. Be carefully before you invest the time and money.

There is also North Star Rifle Club between Hastings and Red Wing.
Emphasis is on precision rifle shooting.

In past years, I have belonged to Bald Eagle Sportsmens Club, the GOCRA range near Harris, MN, and the Oakdale Gun Club. These are fine ranges, but require a bit more money and time-commitment and/or driving than it is worth to me, a very occasional shooter. Now, I shoot indoors at Metro Gun Club and also Bills in Blaine and Centennial. But what I need is a 100-yard and 200-yard outdoor range.

Frankly, It's really hard to find a decent 100-yard or more outdoor shooting range within decent driving distance of the Twin Cities and at a decent price and without a multi-year waiting list.

And our strongest public-shooting-range supporter in the Legislature (Rep Tom Hackbarth-Andover) just lost his primary election and thus will be retiring. He authored Minnesota's successful Shooting Range Protection Law some years ago. Nevertheless, it might be helpful to approach him for strategizing future options.

Never the less, If you are driving West on I-94 through North Dakota, there is a wonderful shooting range just one-mile west of Glendale, Montana on MT 200S driving toward Circle, MT. This Range is just one-day of very easy Freeway driving on I-94 through always-scenic North Dakota (scenic for me, at least). That's just one full day of driving, even when leaving in the afternoon after work.

Jim Cleary - Blaine, MN

This State of Montana Public/Free Shooting Range at Glendale is nearly new, and has 12 sturdy, covered shooting tables, great drive-up access to the tables with immediately adjacent and great parking, is FREE and open to the PUBLIC everyday, has several marked ranges with berms from a 25 yard pistol range to a 100 yard rifle, as well as 50 yard and 75 yard ranges, and is usually empty. There is also a 200-foot-high natural escarpment beyond the berms that acts as an overall Big Berm. The range is on the scenic western prairie and there are NO close neighbors to bother or complain. There is also Great camping nearby in an 11,000-acre badlands-type area at Mokoshika State Park, located adjacent to Glendale, just 2 miles or so from this Range.

Between that Free Montana shooting range and Mokoshika SP, this is the finest setup I have ever found. You can drive right up, post your targets, claim a table, and start shooting. You will probably be alone on most days of the year. You can stay minutes, hours or days, and it is absolutely Free to everyone! I have stopped here often. It is about 610 miles from my home in Blaine, MN, and is well worth the stop if you happen to be driving that direction.

If only Minnesota had a few such Free Public Ranges. Thank you to the Glendale Sportsman's Club for having lobbied the State of Montana to build this great Range. I always patronize local businesses in Glendale when stopping to shoot, and even when just passing through, to inform the residents of just how much this range means to me and my fellow Minnesotans. My wife and I even use that range and camp at the State Park at Glendale when traveling on summer trips to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. I'd highly recommend it.

Unfortunitly They have Chosen To raise their Membership to 400.00 a year with no improvement in service or Facilities

$500 actually

They have improved the range, but their membership is still ridiculously high. Does have benefit of keeping riff-raff away and I usually never have to wait for a spot to shoot.

I'll renew again because the fuel and time savings are real and do help offset the cost of membership.

OGC is a very nice place to shoot. The 100 yd range is more than decent.

It is not only within decent driving range of the Twin Cities it is is actually IN the Twin Cities.

How much do you think is a decent price? It is $100 a year for a membership. That seems pretty decent to me.

The only way to keep the membership numbers decent and not have an indecent number of people precluding you from being able to shoot is to limit the membership. Hence the waiting list. The only way to get around the waiting list is to get on one and wait it out.
